Hello,

I recently received a 2001 State Quarter with very odd beveled/worn/sanded edges? The smooth area is very smooth -no roughness. The tails smoothness is of even width, the heads smoothness seems slightly off center - one edge is thinner.

I was curious because I have never seen a coin with this appearance before. Any opinions? Wear or error?

Thank you,

Lynn

Welcome to the forum! Unfortunately, this is PMD (Post Mint Damage). This happened after the coin was struck and is not an error.

Unusual wear might be a keeper.

It isn't wear. It is just damage. Wear affects the high points first.
