I found this nice coin in a big lot of coins, this is the most expensive and rarest circulation coin from Suriname.. In the KM Catalogue it is pretty underrated (like a lot of coins !) But anyway that was a pretty cool find

I looked that one up--nice find! And yours is in a better grade.
It was minted in Utrecht? Are these collected in the Netherlands?
No doubt, a higher value than listed in Krause.

Thanks Yes these were minted in Utrecht, Holland.

And they are collected here ofcourse, since it has a lot of historical value for Dutch people.... But unfortuanetly and strangly enough, coins from Netherlands Antillen, Aruba & Suriname are a lot less popular than for example Dutch coins itself though. But I could sell this baby in a heartbeat for at least €20 or so, I think .. but I won't

I'm not the best in grading, so how would you grade it? I also see some black dirt above the date, would this affect overall value?

Honestly, this is the first time I've seen this coin--so I would be guessing on grade. Overall, it looks like a gEF? If that's wear on the guys around the shield?
Unrelated question--is Utrecht regarded as part of Holland? Most people here confuse Holland with the Netherlands, and my Dutch friends correct me on the difference.

There is no wear as I can see in the original pictures beside 2 small rim cuts on the other side.. But could be wrong

hmm to give an answer on the other part.. as I for example live in Limburg (province in The Netherlands). As Utrecht is also a province in The Netherlands, but Utrecht is also the Main City in Utrecht Province.
A bit like Washington state has Washington DC I guess, The call the biggest city in the province after the province.

So you can live in: The Netherlands > Province Utrecht > City of Utrecht > Area Code > Street Name > Etc..

As for Holland vs The Netherlands, it's nothing more than how someone names the country
Southerners like myself call everything above The Maas (river) Holland, because they have a different dialect etc.
A bit like the Dutch vs the Belgium people or Democrat vs Republicans etc..

I think what I'm saying is that we just live in The Netherlands, but Holland is also used a lot.

In the time of the VOC Holland was actually a Province, as was Utrecht... anyways it has a lot of history, and I would have to check the facts

Holland, The Netherlands, Dutch... it's al the same little country

Your coin is nicer than I could tell from pics.
Well, that's good to know about Holland; it's more of personal taste. I guess a friend in Utrecht doesn't like it being called Holland.

This is a confusing one. I live in Washington State, but you won't find Washington DC anywhere close--it's 3700km away in the District of Columbia. Closer to my home, there is British Columbia--which is in Canada.
