There is really no point for roll hunters to mark coins. If you get them back, you will get them back and they will still be a reject. What is the point of marking it? "Oh, I see, this one has already disappointed me before." These three, however, could be from some dolt testing out a new punch tool. I do not see a roll hunter using anything more complicated than a Sharpie or similar marker.

Well a roll hunter could be interested to know if all his rejects are just coming right back to him so he can find either a new place to get new coins, or a new place to dump the rejects.

No surprise, you run into selfish, ignorant people in every walk of life. I certainly wouldn't label this person a collector, whatever the motivation.

Are you in Southern California? I got them here as well, mostly P's, but sometimes H's as well.

I noticed in the pic that the reeding has been beaten off the coins. I wonder if this is some in house mark a casino puts on their coins. Just a thought.

Nah its a hunter. I get those marks on clean and shiny coins just as well as slot coins.

I always mark my rolls I search, not the coins. If I get a box with all my rolls in it, then I know not to search it again. Marking the coins seems wrong. It can ruin a nice coin for other people.

I don't think a roll hunter, who is most likely trying to maximize their time spent searching rolls, would take the time to put a mark on a coin in this fashion. It seems counterproductive.
This is someone doing it just for the heck of it.

i am in san diego. could it possibly be Pala Casino? The punch mark lines up perfectly on two of the three. The third is further out so not to contact the raised part of the coin, but still perfectly angeled like the others. Someone put in a little effort to set this up, just doesn't seem like something any searcher would do.

Never thought about the casino angle, but I've seen these all over in San Diego with the P (or H) facing all over the place.
I never saw more than 2 or 3 lined up, so I never thought about the aesthetic aspects of the punch.
