My eyes aren't the way they use to be and this small coin is giving trouble to ID. The reverse is gone, so there is no help there. Sorry for the terrible pictutres. The coin is an AE4, .8 grams, and 13mm.

A shot in the dark but it looks female to me and with quite elaborate headgear, it also looks silver.

How about the wives of Arcadius or Theodosius II?

Bobby, It is female and not silver. Not having any luck matching it to any of the late empresses. Wish the reverse wasn't gone, that would have helped.

It could be a difficult one, not many bronze coins of Aelia Eudoxia about, a few more of Aelia Eudocia.

They are still very rare though, this one sold for $335 on ebay!

Good luck - I fear you may have to trawl though a lot of pics to narrow the possibilities down.

Hi there.
You two seem very clever - could you help me with this coin? I'm new to this...

It appears to be an Antoninus Pius provincial coin, perhaps from Thrace.

I think the reverse shows Artemis drawing an arrow from his quiver. It would date from around 138-161AD.

I have to say though I'm not convinced as to the authenticity of this - I'd rather let some of the other members comment on this as its far from my area.

Dont be worried if a Mod moves this into its own thread so people can find it under a different title. A new thread is always a good idea for a new coin.

I agree a provinical coin of Antoninius Pius, I think its from the Alexandria mint though and it appears to be genuine.

After some more research I've come to the conclusion that the coin is Aelia Flaccilla.
