The man on the notes is King George VI from England and the woman is Queen Elizabeth II. The notes with the King George VI portrait were made earlier then the ones with QEII and have a higher premium on them. They are also Shillings, not Schillings and are lower denominations then the one pound shown. There are different versions of each note mainly different signatures. You can look them up in the Standard Catalog of World Paper Money General Issues by Krause Publications. If you are interested in paper money I would get one. Has lots of useful information. If you just want to look a few things up, I would see if your local library has a copy.
