Not completely sure if it has slight wear but I am leaning towards MS. It looks to be relatively free of marks, so assuming it is MS I think it would be a 63 or better.

THIS IS A TUFF CALL, and on for many to relate to the STRIKE and Circulation issues...the one thing that stands out is the Obverse is very clean...thought the hair of the ear is very flat...Circulation or Flatsruck? as clean as the OBVERSE is I would lean towards poor strike..weal details of the highest points on the coin.....MOST say ANY OR ALL New Orleans coins are weakly struck so they all should grade higher but this is not so....WE then look at the Reverse, and see a rounded chest...(good)..but very little detail....AS well as the legs and talon knuckles also are void of detail..yet the wreath is strong.. these are indications of as weakly struck coin in which the highest points of detail "lack detail" while the rest of the coin shows very slight wear....if any...AS for grade...In these times its really up to the grader for your particular TPG as to what they will award it to,,I think, the previous MS63 would be a great grade when one compares a normal strike with all the details to one with a poorer strike...I WELCOME ALL IDEAS ON THIS"...AS New Orleans has this notable condition, and many ASSUME any New Orleans coins will be poorly struck so the should be graded higher..

Well besides the two marks above the head, the rim ding near head and the scratch above date the obverse looks nice. The weak hair by the ear does look more like strike then like a rub down.

On the reverse side I notice many small rim dings, at least 5 small nicks in various places and the chest to me honestly looks more like wear to me then a bad strike. Although part of it could definitely be a weak strike I just dont think it looks like a solely weak strike.

With all that said very nice coin, not a ton of wear just a tad. Strong au55 or a au58

New Orleans Morgans often have weak strike that is confused with wear. This coin, however, has some clear evidence of rub.

Hence, I concur with a grading of AU-55.

I agree with the AU grade as well. Additionally, the eagle's right wing looks like it has suffered after mint abuse. I'm still a Nawlins fan though, given its proximity to me. It's tough to beat those early 80's San Francisco strikes for strength of mintage and beauty though.

One would have to have this coin in hand to determine weak strike no wear, or weak strike with wear.

My guess would be MS.
