Lets create a list of which banks in the chicagoland area order from brinks or from loomis so that we won't all be cross dumping.

There are way too many banks in Chicagoland to even attempt a list like this, but from my experience I can tell you that US Bank in the West and Northwest suburbs all seem to use brinks. Harris, Chase and TCF all get the ubiquitous "Strings and Sons" wrappers, but I've never seen the trucks and that's a question I don't want to ask the tellers :) Chase and TCF definitely source from the same carrier because I've dumped coins at TCF and gotten them back at Chase several times.

You will always eventually get someone elses dumps if you search enough. you may even get some of your own coins back. I don't care if it is brinks or loomis or whoever, I just keep searching. Too many theories of how you will get the best finds, and every theory fails. I think you will get your best finds if you just go to banks and don't worry about where they are getting coins. Just go to several banks and pick up coins often. I don't know about others but that is how I feel. I just keep searching.

I agree with Murrellington. It's all about who dumps their silver and where. I've seen great Brinks boxes and I've had a lot of skunked String n sons (whoever they came from). No bank I've ever used has been a consistant hot spot, and no bank I've ever used has been a consistant skunk fest.

Thanks for the info, I was wondering since the last 9 box order I did I only came up with 2 boxes with 1 40% in each, other 7 boxes were skunk!

Yeah you are talking about halves, which are very inconsistent. It's all chance. People on the half dollar searching thread will get 9 skunks in a row and then they will get an awesome box. Or they will get several boxes with 1 or 2 silver in them. One thing the half dollar searchers will tell you is to just keep searching. Chuckster searches 8 boxes every week, and win or lose he still gets 8 boxes the next week.

Volume is definitely key. As I'm sure all urban areas are, Chicago is heavily searched. I've been doing ~2 boxes a week for over a year and it's been extremely rare to find a box that isn't marked and some of the hunters are very prolific as can been seen by their marks. But there are also a lot old timers around and a ton of places to dump coins, so there is a steady trickle of silver into the boxes. The more you search, the more you'll find but be warned that enough people out there are going "crazy" searching that some of the bank branches are refusing to order and dumping is becoming a problem at times too. Be polite and try not to choke off the supply for the rest of us :)

Quote: There are way too many banks in Chicagoland to even attempt a list like this, That is so true and not only that but many of them change sources frequently. There are so many banks and branches in the Chicago area, I suspect they are competing with Starbucks. I used to love to just walk into some of the many, many banks in the downtown area for free pens with their names on them. Even trying to collect them all is tuff since so many change names, are bought out by someone, close due to some big shots running off with the proceeds. There are about 5 banks by me that I can walk to.
