I've been trying to capture the coin as best as I can in the past and something was just missing.....not having a copy stand I was getting pictures like this...

Photo-Fun

Photo-Fun The camera is my canon A3100 IS, after reading some more and seeing the results others have been getting I decided to go all the way OVERBOARD and rushed on over to my local Walmart to get one of those copy stands I've seen,, they have lots of them....

Photo-Fun I pulled this right out of the treasure can.....I then went back to my tripod and just before I used this new and fantastic tool, I took some photo's a new way..and came as close as I think I can get to the real color of silver I had been missing, but the cartwheels many times hide the DETAIL I am fore most trying to achieve...here they are..

Photo-Fun

Photo-Fun these are with the light pointing away from the coin...I then had to experiment with this new super technology....and took some pics....

Photo-Fun

Photo-FunThe first thing I really noticed was the CFL 6500K bulbs were not over lighting the coin and washing many details out IT DID however allow the light rays to pass onto the coin and camera sensor I wasn't getting before....Although I still still slightly off, FINALLY I am capturing luster, toning and details I
was looking for without buying another new camera or spending the money on a REAL DSLR camera I would love to have.....just not in the budget..SuperDave, I may just be ready to flood you with some pic's....I am always open to advise, all comments are welomed.....

Coming along nicely Aladin. You seem to be getting the detail you're after this way. Not having the coin in hand it's hard to say what the colors look like but just looking at your pix it appears to have a lot of green and yellows that are over emphasized. This is what I came up with after running your last photo through Lightroom.

Now you're cooking with fire.

This illustrates the basic difference between direct and diffuse lighting. The direct-lit shots are excellent for luster; the diffuse lighting a lot better for detail. When posting a coin for evaluation, it might be of interest to offer a set of each.

Thanks guys, I really noticed the difference when comparing the two systems for taking pictures, Both have qualitiesWe look for yet with a point and shoot camera, this is possibly the best one can aquire.....
I took these shots and did not alter them, other than resizing and cropping them to be able to post the pics.for your advise..
The COIN IN HAND is of course the non diffused pic's number 3 and 4, but the detail is a mite washed out, and the toning isn't "quite correct" but some toning is present...
Thanks for the post photo work Sidekick, I have no experience in post processing, but will have to enter that arena when I get a consistent result from my current photoing process/experience level.....I think the green from my back round, may be reflecting into the sensors somehow influencing the over all color...I will switch to white as a neutral color which should have no overall adverse side effects....
Thanks for the support all, And Dave it is interesting to note your comment.....one should represent more than one photo, for true evaluations!many times people post grade evaluations with very poor pictures and SUCH A VARIETY OF GUESSING the grade....using out of focus and over lighted pictures.which hide the small dings that will have an impact in it's overall grade....
I am seeking to.... submit coins with a clear and clean enough appearance for vaming diagnostics on this site..Nothing more and nothing less, So my endevours are a 2 prong attack, not owning a high end camera which would be best...Like many here, we can't divert funds to spend $2,000 on a camera that might not do exactly what we want...other threads show this to be very true....RPMS/DAVE and SIDEKICK. all have different approaches as ..
"one has to know how to tweak what you have"...
and for many of us, we don't have the high end equipment and the high end know how of whats really taking place when you take a picture....So its important to understand the basics and how to tweak what you do have to get the best results we can with what we have...
I posted this thread not to say "Yipie look at me", but rather to say...
There are many threads that people have started asking for advice...And GOOD advice is freely given, and many have
taken much better pictures from there advice!
I say "KUDO'S" to those that help us..
and "thanks" to all that have contributed in my many post's trying to get to know what camera I am working with, and the fundamentals to achieve decent results...Thank you all....
