New hoarder here. I just got a bag of Suzan B. Anthony dollars and discovered that 60% of them are the copper colored (circa 2000) coins and the rest are typical silver alloy dated 1979.

I plan to keep the coins for an emergency and if none then give them to my grandson. Would I be better off exchanging one color for another or will they both be of the same value 30 years from now?

I can't imagine that either color would ever be worth more than face value.

It seems that if banks close that merchants might prefer the typical silver looking coins, perhaps even refusing the copper ones as I myself had never seen one in circulation.

Thanks,

Kerry

The 2000s are not Susan Bs but Sacagawea. Not very popular in circulation and not released to the public since 2001. Always worth their face value. The Susan Bs in 1979 had two varieties. Near date & far date. The near date is closer to the rim and carries a small premium in the better grades.

The Susan B. Anthony's and the Sacagawea's will make a great introduction into coin collecting for your grandchildren.

Thanks for the corrections stmpcol. Much appreciated. None of mine are anywhere near better grade—probably already picked over. I saw lots of names w/tel numbers on the wrappers indicating they had been rewrapped by customers.
