I am inclined to think not in this case but,

I have a French 5 franc of 1970, (KM# 926a.1), which is obviously magnetic.
This would indicate that the composition is of pure nickel.
However, KM reports the composition this coin should be nickel clad copper nickel.

I would appreciate if any other CCF'er has one of these, dating from 1970 to 2001, and to check if theirs is magnetic or not.

How thick does the nickel cladding need to be for the coin to be responsive to a fridge magnet?

Other denominations in this series (1/4 franc, 1/2 franc, 1 franc and 2 francs) are reported by KM as being composed of pure nickel.

To muddy the facts a little more, the commemorative 5 francs of 1996 (KM # 1155) reports the composition as nickel clad steel. I would assume this coin is magnetic.

My 1970-1974 are all highly magnetic. I think Krause is wrong, and these are Nickel.

It's actually a lot easier to find a mistake in Krause than it is to find a true anomaly coin. =)
