Man! Thought I was getting a G-4 coin here. Picture in the auction was only of the obverse, and it did, indeed, look like G-4 (amazing what can be done to enhance photos, huh?). After receiving it, and viewing it in hand, both obverse and reverse, I'm more inclined to grade it AG-3. Kind of a let down but I'm going to keep it - been wanting a 20 cents piece for the longest, and now, well.....I got one. Reckon I'll keep it, and keep shopping for a better one. One of life's lessons. Anyway, do y'all agree with me that it's an AG-3? Thanks. Ralph Image: 1875 S.jpg23.96 KB Image: 1875 S Rev.jpg23.95 KB

Ralph, the obverse is a Good 4 since there is a full rim. The reverse is actually not making an AG, not sure what is below that? At least in my 1979 Photograde the reverse needs some lettering and you can make out the arrows in AG, but not in yours.

It was with out a doubt photo enhanced . what matters is that you are happy with it . I agree with okie-colin, A good obv. and what the rev. AG-2 maybe but its better than the 20 cent I have which is none. so If You feel the price was right . Than you did okay

Jim - I forked over 41 bucks for it thinking I was getting a good deal on a G-4 coin, which, in that condition, is worth a good bit more than what I paid. Can't fuss though - been missing a 20 cent coin, been wanting one, so..... I think it's a pretty cool coin, even in it's condition - if I'm not mistaken, they only minted 309,840 for circulation in 1875 and 1876 - only proofs were minted in 1877 and 1878. A short lived series, and a good coin to have for your collection. I believe they suffered the same fate as the SBA dollars - too similar in size to the quarter, caused too much confusion. Ralph

G-4 obverse, AG-3 reverse. $41 bucks is a nice deal. I've been looking for a 20-cent piece too (unsuccessfully). To me, the whole point in having one is because it does seem like such a cool coin to have. Treasure it.

Ralph- anytime you can get a problem-free 20 cent piece with only good honest wear for $40, you got a good deal Now, if you had gotten anything besides a 75-S for that price, I would be really jealous

Okay - what is it - about 60% of the grade lies with the obverse? So.....cool!!! Yes Mynt, it is a cool coin - to my knowledge it's the only 20 cents coin ever minted by the US Mint. That, in itself, makes it unique, and, to me, a highly desirable coin. And yes Biokemist, the price was good for this one - no matter the wear. Don't think I'll ever be able to find any of the others for anywhere near that price, so I'm happy with it - may be the only one I ever own.
