Hate was a strong word anyway ... but I never really had a soft spot for the old standby Lincoln Cent. I got the set in that I bought off ebay and while a few coins were disappointing, overall I'm still pleased with the set.

I was rummaging around looking for some books and albums that I'm going to sell, and I came across a set of memorial cents that I thought was long gone. I was able to use that folder to upgrade 30 coins in this set.

The 1970-S small date is indeed the small date. The set included a 72 DDO to boot. I only need a handfull of coins to have a complete set up to 2003 including proof only issues.

I'll peck away at upgrading and cmpleting the set. I may never have the real biggies ... but you just never know what might turn up.

I may add some highlight pics tomorrow. I did post this 72DDO in the grading sub-forum though.

The older Lincoln cents had more character I feel. Lincoln seems so flat looking on the modern cents.

It is because he is flat. Lower relief and lower strike pressure allows for longer die life, faster speeds, and ultimately higher mintages.

Just like the Washington Qtr. change with George's portrait......same thing....they're all a "more flat design" for longer life.

Yes, all of the new coins stink on ice where art is concerned. They don't even need sculptors anymore....just a computer "busy box".
