Could it be a Grease Filled Die? I have a similar marking on a new 2011 $1 Chogm coin pulled out of a new Mint roll. I also got a similar mark from a 2011 $1 Ram's head coin I pressed at the Mint Gallery in Canberra myself. I watched it get pressed then saw a thin layer of black, looked like cling wrap in the shape of a blob. I blew it off and there was a dent left in the same spot....Not sure if it would be worth anything?

Quite a while ago I found one similar in the same place (cheek), but a smaller 'dent' while looking through a mint bag of 2005 50c coins. Like you say, I didn't look like PMD but rather a flaw in the original blank... The bag belonged to a dealer (so it wasn't mine) so I showed it to the dealer and told him to keep it separate... in hind sight maybe I should have offered him a few bucks for it as apart from this example I have never seen one like it again. Would like to hear the views of other more experienced forum members...

the "other bit" looks like PMD to me as the rim is distorted, which makes me wonder about the indentation. The other coin I saw mentioned above didn't have any other markings and nothing like this, it was aUNC with only a few minor bag marks...

Quote: Struck through debris on the cheek. Great find! . Sorry to be such a newb but that means something was on the die when it was pressed yes? And I should keep it? How exciting! I'm loving this so much fun. Do you guys want me to keep my eye out for anything in particular? Are you searching for anything?

starting off is a bit like that, but once you handle a few it comes to you quick. I know I make my way through a few $ worth of coins in a night. Now with a loupe it is easier!

I just found a surprisingly similar dent on a 2004 5 cent coin. I have taken some photos of it. I will make another topic and post pics.

That's a pretty dramatic strike-through!
