It's time for some older commemoratives on this sight. The Oregon halve is one of the best designs the United States have ever produced.

Agree completely with ya Muddy... I just upgraded mine to a MS64, but a more common date. I never really knew that much about the Early Commemoratives until you and NickelSearcher piqued my interest. I just bought the hardcover 1981 edition of the Early Silver and Gold Commem book that Breen co-authored and it's making for wonderful reading. I agree with you - let's light up this Commemorative thread and generate some interest in these very special coins.

Great coin muddler ... IMHO one of the all-time best design efforts ever produced in a USA coin.

Your lovely 1936-S has a mintage of only 5,006 ... I did not miss a decimal there ... five thousand a six ... total forever for any of us who ever want one.

The classic silver USA set is such a niche collecting interest that I often wonder how many mainstream collectors even know these coins exist ... yet alone any of the fascinating history behind them?

For example ... this masterpiece of USA coinage was designed by the husband/wife team of James Earl Fraser and Laura Gardin Fraser ... each designed one side ... soooo ... pick your favorite side of the Oregon half ...

Ms. Fraser designed what I call the obverse ... the side with the Indian Chief ...

Mr. Fraser designed what I call the reverse ... the side with the Conestoga wagon and rising sun.

The official US Mint position is backwards from that ... they consider the side with the date the obverse.

Great fun and great history in this set ... Thanks for sharing the photo muddler.
