I found a 5 cent coin where a short section of the rim (maybe 4mm) is missing on both sides of the coin, as well as the reeding on the edge of the coin.
Looking through a 30x loupe I cannot see any signs of wear, so I think this might be a clipped planchet.
Does that sound right?

Yep, it's tiny but that's what it is. You can just see the weakness in the rim opposite the clip, which is the "Blakesley Effect". Great find!

I will look up 'Blakesley effect' and take another look at the opposite side on this coin.
Thanks for the confirmation!
