O.K. they are back up to 185 each, and the proofs are 225, not bad at all....

If had a spare grand, that is where it would go. Five of those gems, proofs or not....

i'd bet on Pt. Yes there'll be a premium but you can charge the same premium when selling.

I would be paying $178 per 1/10 or $426 per 1/4 for Pt.

I just personally never liked Platinum as an investment. Has it ever NOT done WORSE than silver, gold, and even palladium...proportionally speaking ofcoarse. If you can find a good deal on junk silver coins by weight not face value, then go for that. Have you ever considered Rhodium. Very rare, kind of low priced right now, and more research is being done on it to determine it's further applications.

I looked into Rhodium for a good week. My problem is that most people have never heard of it before in their life. So I'd be stuck selling on ebay and paying the fees if I went to sell it. Even on ebay it seemed to be well above spot.

I should have pulled the trigger when it was sitting at $28.50. Now it's either buy or wait and see if it dips in the next few days. Which is what I'm doing. Because honestly, if it doesn't dip I'll just put the money into my Buffalo collection.

You can buy and sell Rhodium (and all other metals) very easily on kitco. Right now it's just slightly higher than I want it to be. Look at it's price swings though. If it approaches $1000 I'm buying all day, hoping for a scientific breakthrough, and a jump to $10000. That would be appropraite considering it's rarity compared to other metals. Right now, I'd wait to see if silver falls a bit more. Today's initial lack of real recovery indicates it might stay put or even drop a bit further. You know it'll get a jump come the holiday season...if it approaches $26, I'm buying that all day long. You could never go wrong investing in your own collection, though, that always makes me happy.

I was thinking $27, but either way you have a good point. If silver goes down I'll buy and be happy. If not, I'll get some MS65 buffs and be even happier!

I think Rhodium is a curiosity metal, and like you said, still with much scientific speculation surrounding it. I like that gamble theory of a possible jump from a 1000 to 10,000, lol, who knows right....

It is not mainstream, and not the first thing that pops into Pm lovers head in most cases when a buying window presents itself like G & S. But with a planet population that will soon be pushing 7 billion, and many with info and access to the internet and computers who know Rhodium is indeed MOST RARE, it may indeed be a sound investment. And in my limited experiences, anything with known value that is again MOST RARE, (other than a rare rock in your backyard) it will bring interest and probably not set long at all when put back up to sell....

I saw some dino dung sold for 150 bucks on the auction house show, and it only took it around 75 million years to increase in value from 0 to $150 ....

That tells me anything is possible....

IMO silver right now would be the winner. It experienced the Largest losses, and a poised to make the higher gains.

Other than contracts or ebay, the only place I know that trades rhodium is kitco. Any suggestions?

Well, no, I don't know of anywhere other than kitco that buys and sells Rhodium, but I haven't looked. It's so easy and reliable and appropriately priced why go anywhere else.

No less likely than silver hitting $50. Check hysterical prices of Rh.

For most of us, they're in another country.

They're being investigated all over Canada for finagling the bagel.

You either buy paper Rhodium, or have huge penalties for wanting physicals.

Really? that's interesting. I've only had good experiences with them. I have, however, never actually bought Rhodium specifically. The way the website describes the process of purchasing and what you actually get sounds fine to me. Unless they're lying.
