I think this is probably because over the years collector have constantly wanted to keep the 2X2's cheaper and cheaper.

Well, the reason I ordered from Brent-Krueger was indeed based on price. You may have a point there. Interestingly though, looking back at their description, the even imply that their 2x2s have less of a dust problem than others: "You get what you pay for. If you see cardboard holders for less, then chances are they're the cheap imported knock-offs that have problems with dust, thinner chipboard and baggy mylar windows."

Aside from the dust, these 2x2s actually seem a bit better than I recall. The plastic seems just a bit thinner but every bit as strong. It has a bit more of that "stretch" quality than I recall which seem to really hold the coin in place.

I'll deal with the dust. It's no big deal. I mostly just wanted to know if it was par for the course or if I got a bad batch.

Now I need to figure out what brand of pages to mount these puppies in as on several of my silver coins I think I see the ravages of the plasticizer used in the current PVC pages. Pretty ugly. Fortunately nothing valuable and only on coins I didn't have in 2x2s.

Thanks again, everyone, for your feedback.

never really noticed a huge dust problem on any of the 1.5 x 1.5 flips I have used but I would whip out a turkey baster for a dollar that you could easily find at your local dollar store
no need for that fancy one posted by biokemist

I use the same canned air that I clean my keyboard with to eliminate dust on 2x2's. Fortunately this hasn't been much of a problem since the 2x2's from my favorite supplier are virtually dust free.

Well, I'm irritated again today. Went to 3 local shops today and the 2x2s they have there have no dust at all compared to the ones I mail ordered. Further, the 2x2s were shipped with Coin Edge holders. The Coin Edge packaging is covered in dust. None inside -- just the outside -- but I've gotta clean off the outside because as soon as I pop the container open dust gets inside. Spent time today cleaning off all the dust I possibly could but some of the cardboard dust got inside and the CoinEdge holders essentially need to be washed before use now. The CE holders are for some mint coins and I definitely don't need extra cardboard dust included. I think I'll call them Monday to at least let them know about the problem. It's been such a waste of time.
