Just got the upgrade to my 1804 in and would love the Forum's thoughts on grade and attribution. It should be an easy one to attribute, thanks to the yummy die crack on the reverse. Also, the reverse has approx. a 35 degree clockwise rotation. All comments greatly appreciated. Paleoguy As an aside, thoughts on making this one a candidate for some BadThad Juice?

I know nothing when it comes to Half Cents, but this one sure is purdy. Can I ask for a pic of the one that got kicked out? lol

I am by no means a Copper guy, but I'll guess this would go at least XF details. It's hard to see the obverse details in this photo. As for the attribution, unless there is a 7 hiding under that second 8, i'll guess it's a C-3. I will not even touch the subject of juicing it. No matter what, it is a beautiful coin!

I agree with the XF details. Great coin with an awesome die crack.

The quest is over. Errors in the coin were brought to my attention in another portion of the forum. This beauty wasn't born at the mint! It's a fake! I've already contacted the seller and they are willing to take it back. Sooooooooooo be careful if you see one like it on ebay for sale..

The "8's" in 1808 look upside down to me, larger loop on top instead of the bottom.

That really stinks! That's one of my fears nowadays is that there are a lot of fakes out there and I'm going to end up with one and not even realize it. Hope the return/ refund turns out well for you.

Here's a blow by blow account on the errors made in the coin from one of our "Pros from Dover" - Condor101: "I'm sorry to say that you are the proud owner of a fake. There are only two obverses known for 1808. One of them is an obvious overdate and on the other one the second 8 is made using the 0 punch from the fraction on the reverse. This isn't the overdate, and the 8 is not made from the 0 punch. Also the date figures are too small and I don't like the font. On the 1808 "regular" date the point of the 1 almost touches the curl. The reverse is also wrong. The reverse of the 1808 Half Cents has the gap between the ends of the wreath below the serif of the E. On your coin it's right of the serif of S. Also the digits in the fraction are too large for those used in 1808. So either it is a fake or you've got a brand new unknown variety with a new obv and reverse, but which somehow managed to use the obverse long enough to wear away the dentilation." Convinced me! Many thanks to our very own Condor for catching the problems before my seven day return window had run out! Paleoguy
