Is there anyone on the forum who is aware of the existence of a 1928-d/s Buffalo nickel? I saw one being advertised but there were no pics and I've never heard of it before.

So how many do you want? Let me know and I'll break open my roll of those. NO I never heard of those either. Someone may have it mixed up with something else.

Probably a reason there were no pix. Hmm.

I guess the silence answers the question....someone on here would have heard of it by now if such a coin has been found. I even spoke to the guy via phone and asked him to clarify that it was a '28 and not a '38, which he did. So who knows what it really was.

I was shocked to see this post. I have a complete set of circulated buffaloes averaging F12 and I was taking them out of the album to sell them so I could buy a 1955 DDO Lincoln Cent and I took the 1928 D out and checked it and it was a 1928 S, but when I looked at it with a loupe it looks like an D and an S overlapping. I had never heard of this before and I tried to google a pic and saw none but then I saw this post. I am not 100 sure it is what it looks like... maybe it is a blob of metal and an S, but it looked enough like a D for the guy who sold it to me to sell it as a D and for me to put it in my album as a D initially. I wish I had a good camera to zoom in on it so I could post. But now I am interested in finding out what it is.

I checked Ron Pope's book " Buffalo nickels The Abraded Die Varieties" and there is no mention of a 1928-D/S Buffalo.

Thanks for helping. I don't see anything online either I have been looking this whole time. LOL It certainly is different than the other 28 S coin that I own. Maybe ANACS could check it out for me.

Under my 16 x loupe there is definitely some extra metal under the S mint mark.

Difficult to tell from the picture, but it may just be die chips, rather than a D/S. Just my opinion.
