You 1838 is a beautiful example of a short lived design that I would grade as AU 50. It has good detail but not as fine as this example I would put as AU 58.

I was also thinking AU-50. Muddler, is that coin yours? It's a beautiful example.

Yes I have had the coin for a few years. I have entertained submitting it to a TPG but it has a minor rim Issue at 9:00 and a couple of reverse scratches that may prevent a proper grade.

I'm bumping DoubleE's beauty to an AU-53. And while we're at it.... you showed me yours - I'll show you mine and solicit a grade also. Welcome to the Reeded Edge Half Land!

PG, yours looks like VF 35 to me and a hair better than my 1837 but this thread is for 1838. I think it's great that we have three of us with this date of half dollar.

@Muddy... Reeded edge Halves are sorta like FEC's. One's choices are very limited!

Paleoguy, another amazing reeded half that I would put at EF-40. Everyone is welcome to post pics of their reeded halves.

Very nice coin that I would grade at AU-50.
Rest in Peace

First one is AU-55; I just don't see much wear on it to give it a lower AU. Second one muddler posted looks AU-50 considering lack of luster.
