This is the other coin I purchased today. Again, it is a nice coin with a reverse I did not have. It has a little bit of BD, but I'll take care of that once it is in hand. It is:

Constantine II AE Follis, RIC VII 55 struck at Heraclea

OBV: D N FL CL CONSTANTINVS NOB C, laureate cuirassed bust right
REV: IOVI CONSERVATORI, Jupiter standing left with Victory on globe & eagle-tipped sceptre, eagle & captive at feet, X over II Μ right, SMHA in ex.
3.24g, 20mm R1 rating

Nice coin JW. I don't think the BD has done much damage yet.

You can see where it was cleaned off on the reverse and the slight damage it did there, especially around the midriff and groin areas (ouch). But other then that, it is fine.

From the photo I really doubt that the green is bronze disease. If it is a hard green patina spot, it does no harm and should be left alone. If it is soft and powdery, it is BD and needs to be addressed. What you give as X over IIM is the Roman numeral for 12 1/2. The half usually looks more like a Greek gamma but is supposed to represent the Semis or half of earlier days. The coin marks a revaluation of the coins of that size from 25 denarii of account down to half value or 12.5 denarii. You see this mark on coins of Eastern mints under control of Licinius who also struck in the names of his co-emperor Constantine and his sons. I believe the most common coin of the series was the version of Licinius II which shows the boy with helmet, shield and spear. I have a picture of the similar Licinius II Antioch on my page:

Your coin is nicer and more rare. Enjoy it.

Again, the information you provided is very educational and interesting to someone like me. I regurgitate many things I learn here to my wife, who by the way couldn't care less about my coins, and she thinks I'm so smart and educated. Just today she told me I should teach this stuff. Little does she know its you people that should be teaching (I don't let on that its not me ).

Thanks for the additional information. BTW, I looked at your coin on the link you provided. Is the coin yours? I need one like it (hint hint).

While I have a box of duplicates and unwanteds, that coin is not in it. To get something out of my regular collection all you have to do if trade for something I want more. After all these years there are still things I've never seen that I want.

You will have no trouble finding a Licinius II of the type. They made millions of them.
