I assume this is related to your other post about buying a camera. Dissecting scopes are great, but if you are only thinking of getting one for close up photos of coins, it probably isn't necessary. I have an IHC that I thought might have a repunched date, but wasn't sure, so I took a picture just using my 4 MP Canon Powershot G2 with a screw on macro lens:

It is very slightly out of focus, but I could have fixed that if I wanted to take a few more shots (I was too lazy!). I did a little post-processing to crop the image and bring out the contrast in the date (which explains the orange color), but otherwise this is what you can get with a nearly 10 year old point and shoot mounted on a tripod. I'm not sure of many situations where I'd require more magnification than this for photography, so I don't see the need for a dissecting scope right now.

No problem Jay. I am literally just a week or so ahead of you in my knowledge about coin photography. I decided I want to sell coins on ebay, so I did a lot of research in the last few days. Since I'm cheap I wanted to see what I could get out of my existing setup before spending hundreds to thousands of dollars on new equiptment. I'm certain one of the people with lots of experience could take my exact same setup and make the shot absolutely beautiful.

I use a Bausch & Lomb StereoZoom5 microscope for visual assitance in attributing Large Cents and identifying RPD's etc. For photographing coins and coin details I use a digital SLR/Micro Lens with add-on magnification if needed.

If you want to take pictures through a microscope I'd recommend you look into a trinocular scope that would allow a camera to be mounted to the third eyepiece. Do be aware they are expensive.
