I have a 1968 gold colored dime in sealed plastic. I am not certain, but I believe that this was in with some coins that my grandfather gave me when I was a kid, which is why I am curious about it.

I know that the coin was dipped or experimented upon, but does anyone have any idea or thoughts as to why/how it is in the sealed plastic? It is a very soft plastic (much different than uncirculated coins came in from the mint). It seems like someone went to some trouble to make this look special.

Sorry that the photos aren't the greatest.

It appears to be gold-plated. Why someone would do that to a 1968 dime? I have no idea but it definitely did not come from the Mint looking like that.

I have even had coins gold plated myself. I have also seen some strange colour tonings on coins. This coin certainly appears to be gold plated from these pictures, but that ain't necessarily so!

In nearly 4 years of roll-hunting dimes, I've found gold-plated, annodized, and chrome-plated silver dimes.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors...
Roll hunting since '77
Dirt fishing since '72
