I have a 1968 gold colored dime in sealed plastic. I am not certain, but I believe that this was in with some coins that my grandfather gave me when I was a kid, which is why I am curious about it.
I know that the coin was dipped or experimented upon, but does anyone have any idea or thoughts as to why/how it is in the sealed plastic? It is a very soft plastic (much different than uncirculated coins came in from the mint). It seems like someone went to some trouble to make this look special.
I have even had coins gold plated myself. I have also seen some strange colour tonings on coins. This coin certainly appears to be gold plated from these pictures, but that ain't necessarily so!
