Grading Kennedy Half Dollars

VF20 Very Fine

- Wear spots on the hair below the part and along the cheek and jaw. Hairlines are weak but have nearly full details. On the reverse, wear shows on the arrow points but some details are visible. All central tail feathers are plain.

EF40 Extremely Fine

- Slight wear on the cheek, along the jawbone and on high points of the hair below the part. Hairlines are sharp and detailed. High points of the arrows and right wing tip are lightly worn. Central tail feathers are worn.

AU50 About Uncirculated

- Only a trace of wear on the highest points of the cheek, jawbone and hair below the part. A trace of wear shows on the central tail feather. Nearly all of the mint luster is still present.

MS60 Uncirculated

- No trace of wear, but with minor blemishes. It has full mint luster, but the surface may be dull, spotted or heavily toned. Check for signs of abrasion on the high points of the cheek and jawbone, center of neck, hair below part.

MS63 Select Uncirculated

- No trace of wear. Light blemishes. Attractive mint luster.

MS65 Choice Uncirculated

- No trace of wear except for some small blemish. It has full mint luster but may be unevenly toned or lightly finger marked. A few barely noticeable nicks or marks may be present.
