Obviously none of you have seen the God awful, stupid excuse of a coin that the 9-11 commem is. It is the UGLIEST version of Liberty ever created for coinage, PERIOD. It makes the SBA look like a Davinci masterpiece. THE WORST COIN EVER.

I rtaher like most of the State Quarters. I have never understood the "its too busy" thing. I like detailed and interesting reverses. The ATBs are awesome IMO. Having said that, the worst is Wyoming. No details at all. Just a flat guy on a haorse. Talk about ugly and boring. Unfortunately I have to say MD is right behind it.

The 9/11 medal is not a coin.

I agree on the 911 comm. I don't think I ever saw anything as ugly as this one. Has to rate as one of the top 5 of all time.

The worst coin design ever is the Susan B Anthony dollar coin. Plain ugly and no one liked them, because of the size being so close to the quarter dollar.

Can I add the 2001D and 2001 P One Dollar coin? We all love a good Buffalo nickel, but frankly, this design is like an infomercial coin. The same effect is felt with the Silver Eagle/Walking Liberty design. It's just way too copied.

re: Wyoming State Quarter: The challenge with collecting this coin would be to obtain one with a _perfect_ field luster and cartwheel - no bag marks, etc.

Really! I strongly disagree.

I have a problem with the Peace dollar. I don't know, just looks like she is saying, "Duhh..." That open mouth just looks stupid IMO.

The early Philadelphia Mint IMO was trying to scare the heck out of everyone with the flowing hair of the Wreath Cent and Chain Cents.

capt, none of the commems mentioned previously (such as the special olympics commem) are coins, yet I see no commentary from you about those. They still fall into the conversation.

Libertad, aside from the Silver Eagle, what other coin copied the Walker design? And even so, imitation is the greatest form of flattery. And that Buffalo dollar is BEAUTIFUL. I have wanted that coin since the moment I saw it.

And the wife says to all of you... "the SBA is a good coin. You just dont like it being a woman!"

I tried to tell her a commem with Cindy Crawford would be just lovely.

The Special Olympics commemorative is a coin with a face value of one dollar. The 9/11 commemorative is a medal with no legal tender status. The subject of the thread is "worst coin designs". I'm picking nits, I know, but if we expand the discussion into medals and tokens, the possibilities become much wider and more obscure.

True point on the face value. However, the uglicity of the 9-11 commem and the significance of the event it is supposed to commemorate, it needs to be put on the list. Being a retired firefighter, it may well be a little more personal for me.

I would have to include the Peace dollars in my list of the worst designs ever minted by the US Mint

worst design to allow for wear is Buffalo nickel !
the date is first to wear down/OFF which makes these coins WORTH-LESS!

I am going with the Ike dollar. His profile is strikingly similar to an alien imo.

I think today's gold-tinted dollar coins are ugly as heck but they're the most sensible dollar coins we've ever minted in terms of circulation.

You are probably correct, but to me there is something about that girth of a half dollar or pre-SBA dollars that I just like. It just feels like more money than it is. I would regularly use half dollars if people didn't look at me weird. If nothing else they are great markers for your golf ball. To everyone who doesn't like the Peace dollar, I will GLADLY take them off your hands for you. I'll even pay 10x face value!
