State Quarters.

State Quarters got me into collecting as well. I remember being in 5th grade which I think was 1999, and the teacher was doing this huge raffle for a bunch of candy. Then she had a prize which was one of those maps for the quarters to go in. I wanted it really bad. She pulled a raffle ticket that wasn't mine, but the winner didn't want it. I was so excited. She pulled another ticket and they didn't want it. But I wanted it so bad. She pulled about 7 more tickets and nobody wanted it and it was killing me because I wanted it so bad. Well eventually she pulled one with my name on it and I snagged it right up. So I started collecting all of the quarters from 5 grade on, gradually then the new ones came out. And here I am now, I didn't start actually collecting coins until december 2010.

I think a lot of people aren't understanding why the State Quarters won't be worth much over face value in the years to come. It is because so many millions of each design were saved as BU. Since there might be a few million collectors throughout the country and most won't collect them, there are more than enough for everyone, so demand won't exceed supply. Hence the price won't rise much, if at all.

With the appearance of more and more BU State Quarters found at banks, I think many people are cashing them in, so hopefully the BU supply is dwindling.

I'm not collecting them to make money, I collect them because I like the designs. Personally, I expect all coin values to drop the future which is why I don't purchase rare coins at huge premiums.

just ran across a guy on craigslist that was selling a large quantity of State Quarter mint rolls still in the box and mint bags for $5 over face. He had inherited them and just wanted rid of them since there were so many. I tried jumping on the deal as soon as I saw it, but they were all gone within three hours. Maybe the guy you bought them from got them like this guy did or something. That sounds like a good deal to me though. I'd buy a set of unc for that.

I see no reason why not. There were enough minted to allow one to be picky about condition.

Ghostrider, re: the silver State Quarters, definitely doable, might run you about $400-$500 for the fifty-coin set, cheaper if you bid on individual states. It's an impressive set by itself without the other PDS coins. It's tougher now to find the circukating State Quarters in pristine condition at face, unless you happen to get lucky from someone dumping a collection at the bank and they end up in rolls. The six territories from 2009 are as scarce as the ATB Quarters, but doable from rolls as well.

Exactly why I bought the whole new BU set.

I've been thinking about putting together a BU state set, but I'm working on a few other things first. I have a complete circulated set that my father and I put together out of our pocket change starting from the day they came out. It took a while, but we got it done. It's the worst looking coin set I have, but by far my favorite for obvious reasons. I can't wait until my son gets a little older so we can do the same thing.
