You never know if you got someone on a bad day or maybe you were the 5th person to ask for that request. The best part is that over the last 2 years I have got my kids involved with the roll hunting so when a teller asks, I tell them it is an activity for us to do together and explain a little about their collections (not mine). By the time I leave most tellers are excited that we are doing it as a family and usually wish us good luck.

@samsnate
you know, it sounds like you hit the nail on the head - the banks coin supply.
this can be a very touchy issue. if you come in for example everyday, depending on the size of the bank, they most likely dont have the ammount of coins they need for their business customers etc. not to mention the size of most banks safes these days are tiny, maybe only hold a few boxes...crazy right?
also, what I have noticed is that when you go in to any bank, ask them how much they have in any denomination and even ask them what they typically see come in in an average week. With my credit union and CHASE branches, they LOVE it when I take their coin because they get A LOT and it costs them to ship it out. Everytime I get coins they thank me because it saves them money.
If you go to often, this WILL irritate the bank/teller/manager, because they need coins on hand for every day transactions.
most big branches have a lot so when you ask " how many coins can you give me" they will not give you ALL they have, but as much as they can because they have more needs than facilitating a coin roll hunter.
my guess is that the banks you've been hitting are small and do not see many coins come in. if thats the case, pre-order your coins. this MAY come with a fee becuase most banks have weekly coin orders that come with a standard shipping rate, so in most cases, it wont cost the bank to order you a few boxes if they are ordering anyway. however, small banks, might cost them some $$ if you are the only one ordering coins.
be patient. find a bigger branch that sees a lot of coins come in, my opinion would be one of the big three banks, CHASE, WELLS FARGO, or BofA... they have by far more business accounts and thats where the SILVER is in my opinion. not many business owners take time either to look for silver... some sneaker employees do, but not often.
hope this helps

I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but when I went to my local bank and asked for some dime rolls to look through, the teller said, "are you looking for silver?" then she basically implies that she pulls it all. I suppose you can' t blame the tellers with silver being what it is now but still, AAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!! Draw circle, bang head here

On top of that, tellers are educated all the time about coins by customers. Tellers are collectors too, and I've bought silver from several (for more than face) from them on the line.

I mainly search pennies, so I just tell them I'm a coin collector and I look for old ones. But if I get dimes, I have someone else pick them up for me, and say they needed change for a business!

I've seen some you talk about giving the tellers treats or gifts like what do you give them?

I used to bring my tellers gift certs, chocolates, cookies, candy, and one particular teller I took out to dinner. I ended up asking her to marry me, lol. Watch out! One time I bought lunch for all the girls on the line, when I scored five solid rolls of silver halves there.

I HATE it when tellers flat out tell you and SHOW you "look at these halves! the date is 1955,i know they are silver, what are they worth?" REALLY!? they already KNOW I collect them, why parade them in front of my face? are you trying to stick a knife in my back?> i laugh because the funny thing is, once the tellers FIND The silver, they have no idea how to get the most for it...LOL... they usually end up going to the pawn or coin shop.. thats where I step in... instead of being frustrated, I offer to buy them at slightly higher than those shops.. OR I tell them I sell them on the side at CCF or ebay, where I will offer them a deal 50/50, 60/40.. or something like that. more times than not, they say NO. its worth a shot...lol.. but just remember, most tellers do not COLLECT like we COLLECT.. most just find silver and cash out....

One of my pick up banks, they all grab all the silver, older ladies. They are really nice though. They get all the halves that come through, and sometimes check the clear rolls. doesn't bother me any, I get my SEALED half boxes there, and they gladly order for me, I do take all their loose clads when I go in. Did get my 2011 p and d from them. They are not collectors, just sell the silver when they find it.

do you know where they sell the silver halfhunter? my point earlier was that they usually do not know how to get top dollar for them.. they just go the easiest route - pawn or coin shop...
i was trying to offer my tellers a more profitable way... then I get the coins..

I usually get 50 rolls each of dimes, quarter, and nickels. I call the day before and they get them together and ready for me, it has never been a problem. If asked I tell them that I collect coins and like looking through the rolls. I have 2 different branches I get the rolls from, so I see each branch only 1 time every 2 weeks. So, I am not going through a lot, but they are always accomodating and nice. When I am in the bigger city, I will sometimes stop at a branch (I use US Bank) and try to get this amount, and only once have they not had it. They said I could get it the next day, or just take a lesser amount.
