A few years ago, when I first started collecting, I got an 1880s Indian Head cent in change from Dollarama. I've found wheaties and King George pennies, and even some silver dimes, but that's the only find I really remember. -oddcoins

1991 ten copecks. Now that might sound incredibly recent to most of you, but here in Russia, circulation coins really only go up to 1997 (which has a funny side effect that it's incredibly easy to get from circulation only a set of all circulation coins except for a few ultra-rare key dates*). So anything from earlier than that has to be foreign; usually Ukrainian tenners from 1992, but they're not as common nowadays as they're worth about five times as much as the Russian equivalent (which, by the way, is still just under Two Cents). So the yellow Soviet 1991 tenner was a nice recent bonus. :-) (Still wondering how the triangular heck did that get into circulation - the coin's been all but demonetized since months after it was originally made, over twenty years ago.) *) And the copecks. It's incredibly hard to find even a single copeck in circulation (they are worth 0.035 of a US cent, which might've had something to do with that), and even if you get some it's again incredibly hard to get an older date like 1999 (IIRC my set of circulation coins by date and denomination is still missing copecks from 1999 and 1997, and I've been checking all copecks I get a hold of for over two years now). For the record, the only real key date that isn't an ultra-rare is the 1999 two-rouble coin (numismatic value about $2 for 1999-SP, $3 for 1999-M). I think I have three or four of the SP version, and still waiting for a M :-)

I think the oldest I have is an American 1941 Lincoln Cent. For Canadian coins I have 2 1955 pennies but the whole SF/NSF kinda confuses me so I haven't figured that out yet.

I went back to the same store about a week later and got two new 2011 Lincoln cents in change. One time it is very old coins, and the next time new ones. Interesting. Wonder what I will get the next time?

About five years ago I got an Indian Head cent in change when visiting in Wisconsin. I don't remember the date.
