I saw this on the PCGS forum...no one seemed interested. I was....anyone else?

From the US Mint Annual Report..page 21...final mintage numbers for the set was 179,921

Quote:

<< The American Eagle San Francisco Two-Coin Silver Proof Set sold 179,921 units between June 7 and July 5. This product was produced to true demand as orders were taken prior to production, rather than the Mint estimating a production run and then offering the sets for sale. >>

That RP and S number blows away the 2006 20th RP

Wow. Either their website counter was WAY off or there were far more cancelations and returns than the admitted. That's over a 25 percent return/cancel rate from the initial 240kish

I seen somewhere that the number was 224,000. I think I like the 179,000 number better.

I wonder if the two raw ones I bought and kept sealed will be worth anything more then the original issue price?

Dang sure glad I got in on that deal through Silvertowne on the first sets of FS PCGS MS70s

My guess would be at some point the raw ones could get a bump, as of now you'll have to wait it out while the market is flooded with them

I saw an NGC 70 set today at an LCS for $229, which is the same price MCM had initially.

$229 is great price, considering the mintage.

I've sent some of my set to NGC for grade.... hoping for some good result in a few weeks.

For 229 id grab it. You could immediately sell that on ebay for more than that

The NGC 70 sets are selling for $280-300 with most at $300. Early release are getting a bit more...

PCGS FS sets are now right around $575-599 with an outlier a couple of days ago going for $669.95. Last week you could have grabbed a set for $460...

Foxwoods,

I went and checked out the annual report and you were right it says there were only 179K sold, but it also states they sold the 25th anniversary set with 5 coins last year. The 5 coin set was in 2011, so why would they say it was sold in 2012? I want to believe there was only 179K ASE SF sets sold, but I'm not sure how accurate they are if they are stating they sold the 5 coin set in 2012 as well. Any idea why they would state the 5 coin set was a new product offered in 2012?

I found this link posted by another member of another coin forum...

http://mintnewsblog.com

the 179k was only through the fiscal years end of 9/30/2012... so 224k is the correct mintage according to the above link.

So I guess the 5 coin set was also during that fiscal year, thanks for the clarification.

224 definately sounds closer to the right exact no way the mint could have miscalculated that much even with the cancellations
