Got another one today out of a circ roll. I hope the numbers are low. I'm in South West Ontario near Windsor.

last year I luck out in finding a old loonie in my change and have put it away also have a unc set off that year Another topic is the 2016 unc set error with the 2015 loonie in it that from what I found that they are in different order, I luck out in getting one from a local post office in mar, mine has a number around 05800 I have to check my set to see what the exact number is, a normal 2016 set is over 8500. Another thing I as checking out some 2012 cents I got in a unc roll and notice some doubling on the date Canada, and on the obv the I in regina looks wierd, on these coins but when you look at it from looking at the word Regina not so great. What about quarters with little or no reeding on them. Or what are the olds of a forigein blank be struck with a cdn design.

may have ask this before the mar/2012 brinks accident with the loonies and toonies was it old ones or new ones, if the old what did the mint do with the recover ones did they melt them like someone said, Another thing I notice lot of people posting counterfeit collector coins from the mint. I don't like 95% of what they put out every year. I stick to the coinage issues of Victoria George v, vii and Elizabeth to most of the junk they put out today.

Can a loonie/toonie collector please give us a little history on what exactly is being discussed here. Going back 4 years to the start of this thread is very confusing, to say the least. What is an "old style" loonie & toonie and how are they different from what's there now? What years are supposedly harder to find? Thanks

The 2012 loonies and toonies were made in massive numbers, but the RCM decided to crank out a security design early in 2012 it's a bit smaller and lighter as so the old designed 2012 versions were only distributed for a few weeks mainly to western Canada. The famous trailer load that flipped over in northern Ontario was Ontario's delivery of the original designed coins, so very few of these coins are in eastern Canada. There was a warehouse full of the original designed loonie and toonies in Winnipeg but only a small amount was distributed as such sort of hard to find. The rest of the distribution was the new two small leaf security design, since it's smaller and lighter it was a great excuse for the RCM to Arp all the old versions and another make work project.

@ okiecoiner Here's a link to RCM's announced change to the "new" toonies and loonies in 2012, might be helpful.

Grocery stores are usually good luck for me, as people will spend their bottom dollar for food every time.

Has anyone found the mintage for the old style 2012 loonies and toonies? Or did I miss it?

The 2013 mint report will have the numbers, but that's not the important detail, it's the distribution numbers which the RCM will not share or that is the distributed mintage, someone with better connections can confirm.

These are the production figures from the 2013 Mint Report:
2,414 Million Old Style Loonies
1,531 Million Old Style Toonies

Low numbers for Canadian circulation. Even less were probably put into actual circulation.
