They will continue the series through the end, just not in the amounts they did before. Instead of hundreds of millions of them they will only produce enough to satisfy the demands of collectors, to fill out Mint Sets, Proof Sets etc. You can also get them in rolls and bags. I think I read some place that the expected mintage would be in the 3 million range each but I could be wrong.

Should the public discover they are useful alternatives to the paper dollar or if they discontinue the paper dollar there is no reason the Mint couldn't ramp up production of dollar coins again to compensate.

They are still producing them for collectors if you want a roll or two...

The US MINT is not producing the Presidential Dolalr coins in the quantities they used to, just enough for collector interest. They will become "Not intended for circulation", like the 2002-present JFK Half dollars.

Lets hope that "not intended for circulation" is a short-lived thing and our elected officials will wake up and realize it is much better to produce a dollar coin than a dollar bill. Wait a minute. What am I saying. Do elected officials really do anything anyway?

Disclaimer: below is my opinion
I like the Native American dollars better than the Presidential dollars. I do have a few of the Presidential coins saved, but in general I think a celebration of a group of people (that I am a small part of) is better than celebrating one person.

Once they enact a law to produce a series of coins that has an end date written in the law, they produce the series to its end. It's only the quantity produced that is changing, which could have a positive note for collectors...fewer coins usually means more collectible value in the end.

One other thing working in the favor of potential increase in value is that all issues will be considered as part of the "set" by most collectors I would assume. For example, the Kennedy half dollar could easily be put together as a "set" with just the IFC issues because there is no design change from IFC to NIFC. The Presidential dollars will obviously carry the image of a new former President with each separate issue. I could be way off here and the amount of appreciation in value may be very limited but I plan on completing the series and hanging on to a few extras just because.

I'm not sure on this one, but I think n9jig is right. I think they will continue minting the series until it's done but in much fewer amounts.

As a coin collector I feel must have these so I get proof sets every year and cover the collection that way. Now that they are going to be NICF I may go with all issues.

complete sets will be key. maybe not very valuable, but with the second half of the series only being minted in quantities of 3-5 million, full sets may not get completed by many.

I bought a 2010 proof set for my daughter. Her birth year is 2010 and I thought these would be great to give to her. They arrived and they are a decent proof set and I might have to pick up some of the other years.

I live in Charlotte,North Carolina and sell at a local flea market. A customer paid me $ 48.00 in New James A.Garfield Dollar Coin this week for a purchase. He said he got them from a Bank. I believe a Postal Credit Union since he works for the Post office.
