I really hate it when you place a Best Offer and is instantly rejected....

At least with the Reserve Auction, you can bypass them and bid on other items.

Personally, I don't have a problem with either of these things.

Reserves: which would you rather have, an honestly set reserve price, or a shill bidder bumping you up to an unannounced reserve price?

Offer rejection: I suppose sometimes people are just curious about what people would actually pay for an item (or are wondering what price to ticket it off-eBay), so they put a super-high BIN price on it and see what the punters try to offer them. If some sucker actually clicks the BIN button, well, all the better. I'm not a haggling type personality so I never make offers myself; if the BIN price is too high I just move on to the next.

And again, which would you rather have: someone who rejects your offers immediately, or someone who holds onto all their offers, waits for who knows how long, then conducts their own secret mini-auction, treating the offers as bids and maybe accepting the offer from the "highest bidder"? At least with an immediate rejection you know you're not going to get it unless you hit the BIN button.

When I have made an offer on the coins that I was interested in, I usually get a counter-offer...and the haggling continues.

I wouldnt mind reserve prices as much if the price was published. Personally I dont mind shill bidding, I dont like a price being run up on me, but it doesn't change what I'm willing to pay for it. If they shill 1 to many times I'm out. I bid last second anyway so its impossible for me to tell if that happened.

Id certainly rather have the offer countered or rejected right away but if they wanted to wait a day and see all their offers then accept what they wanted thats fine with me. Unless its a trusted seller that I've dealt with before if they tell me someone else offered this much and ask if I would like to raise my offer I am not changing my offer just because I wont believe them.

I certainly understand the not wanting to sell things and only be willing to for a high price, but if thats the case why use the Best Offer feature at all? Wouldnt it make more sense to just list a BIN and nothing else then?

i don't mind auctions with a reserve because I don't even bid on them. However it is super annoying when there is a best offer option, but they reject every single offer, even if its a dollar short.

How about all the BIN spam which is way overpriced?

Here's what I don't get about reserve prices: if someone won't take anything less than $50 for something, why not start it at $50?

People are free to ask what they want but some of them are so absurd all you can do is laugh

I dont understand the point of having it in such cases.

That 3 strikes on the offer that they put in place is quite annoying, especially when people set the automatic rejection too high. I've seen listings with BIN set to $35, so I put in an offer of $30 and it gets automatically rejected. Then $31 and $32 get automatically rejected. Really? What offer would they consider, $34? Why bother.

I just set the price of my items at the minimum I would sell it for. Sometimes it takes a few times putting it up, but since it's free, its not a problem really.

That's the way to do it. Just don't use the words no reserve. For some reason, some bidders think that a start price over 99 cents is a reserve (which it isn't).

Thats how I price my items too. Id rather not waste everyones time with auctions that I wouldnt want to sell something for if the price didnt meet a reserve

Yes to both, and a 3rd that is up there for me is when a seller drags their feet shipping an item. I know most people do ebay on the side to make a little extra cash, but a seller who takes 4-7 days to ship an item after getting an immediate payment from me is quickly put on my do not buy list.

Hidden reserves are so annoying.
