@moelleref - very nice coin! The 1851 $50 slug is a low R5 (around 80 remain). Is your coin holdered with a grade? It looks like it might be XF Details based on the damage at 11 o'clock on the reverse and what could be some obverse smoothing.
If you do have it in a details holder and have never felt it in person, I'd recommend cracking it out :) I have an example which I frequently pick up just to admire its heft - they're fantastic pieces.

@SmallEagle - Yes, I've held it. It was always a fun day when we took it out of the safe deposit box. However, I don't think I'll ever hold it raw again.
A number of years ago I sent it to NGC to see what they would grade it. Like you, I figured XF - Details (in which case I would have cracked it out). Maybe AU if we got lucky. Initially NGC returned it a body bag due to glue residue (early in its life it was glued/taped to a piece of cardboard), so off to NCS and then a return trip to NGC. We were shocked when NGC graded it MS 60. So, it is never coming out of that holder. Apparently dings on this coin are quite common and don't automatically cause them to be marked details.

Wow! Congrats on that result - that's a HUGE pay day. I would sell it and buy a solid AU example with the proceeds, or use it to build a wide collection of territorials. I personally don't like owning examples which may not make it back into the holder as I've seen far too many coins dropped and broken out.
Congrats again!

Wow.... The best I have is an 1883 "no cents" nickel, with a mintage of 5,000,000. Still, it's not bad for someone just begining to collect. I hope to find some rareties in the future!

I love the 1883 no cents nickel. Great piece! I've been working on an 1869 proof set so I have a few with 500 or so minted. Also have some very low pop Seated Liberty coins and DMPL Morgans. Hard to know how many of these actually are out there.

Mine would have to be the 1996 MS Community Service Commemorative Dollar with a mintage of 23,500 but my favorite coin is the one I just bought an AU58 1929 Standing Liberty quarter.
