Ya, I was just wondering what everyone thinks about a coin of this grade for $45. It looks to be in MS condition, but I wanted others opinions. If I searched completed auctions for BU buffalos, I would get a wide range of numbers, based on what the seller considers to be "BU"..

Maybe a bit too much but it is worth it to never have to think about that spot in the set again. imo

He accepted my offer, do you think I got ripped?

Welllll, as YOU made the offer, you could hardly get ripped now could you?

That aside, its really up to you what you pay. Use the price guides as just that, a guide. Then you need to determine if the coin is worth more or less.

Personally, I would spend the money on the second Buff myself.

Ya, I liked the other one as well, but it didn't seem to be THAT much better..and I figured that it would sell for quite a bit more before its auction time was over. I still think I got a fairly good deal. I have seen much worse sell for over $45. The prices seem to either have risen or just go for higher than the numis price guide. I havent seen a single type 1 from 1913 at MS63 sell for under 60..

I wish others would voice their opinion on this coin as well.

Thanks for the comments guys. Ya, I just always worry that I paid too much for a coin. It's so hard to find the "right" coin for the "right" price online. I feel like I always take a gamble :/ Thanks a lot for at least giving me a piece of mind over this!

Well, the coin looks okay to me. That slightly purplish toning seems attractive, if that's what the coin really looks like. Pricewise, I think it's okay.

But I don't have much experience with online buying either. I just bought a cleaned Seated dime in VG-10 for $7.. It didn't look cleaned in the pics :/

I'd say you did fine on your new purchase. I would have bought it for 45 bucks too.

The 2nd coin, 1902 Liberty nickel... is a problem coin. I wouldn't have it in a type set.
It has damage on the rims, and the gouge by the nose is a big distraction.
The idea of a type set is to get a nice example, not a relatively common coin with problems.

This is where you really should look into a coin show. Possibly none available to you but if there is, you could buy all of those at one time for a lot less.

Are you buying these coins to resell or to build a set? If its the later like I am usually doing them I don't ever worry about paying a little to much. I pay what I think the coin is worth and put it in the set I bought it for and forget about it. I will do my research and see what others have sold for high and low and try to keep what I pay somewhere between the two but I don't ever worry about if someone else thinks I paid to much for the coin as it was bought to bring me enjoyment and that is what it has done. I don't even ask anyone what they think a coin I have purchased is worth because the same coin will be worth a different amount to different people. The ones that has one will not be willing to pay what someone that wants one will pay, so as long as I am happy with the purchase then that's all that matters to me. So I wouldn't worry about if everyone thought you paid to much or got a good deal as long as you were happy with it
