I'm going to get either a 16d merc or a 09s IHC but more importantly,

What's going on Just Carl, your thread shocked me; "Selling off all my duplicated Albums. Or at least many of them."

What's going on?

1- build a wooden storage chest for my growing collection, I plan to burn into the wood "νέμω (nemō), "I dispense, divide, assign, keep, hold" (off wikipedia)

I understand you should either use Honduras Mahogany or Cherry wood only. Other woods can damage coins( Oak is particularly unfriendly to coins).

Is this because there's acid or something else volatile intrinsic to woods such as oak? I know that oak and certain other woods react (oxidize) in the presence of ammonia; I use that for finishing white oak frequently. Regardless, I can't imagine that there are many woods that don't off-gas a bit, especially ones that haven't been dried and aged. Throw finish on anything and it's a crap shoot until it's completely and utterly dry. What makes two very different species such as Honduras mahogany and Cherry (American?) so palatable to metal?

First goal would be to classify my collection... I am just starting and haven't properly put in order what I inherited.

Oak and pine give of trace fumes that corrode coins(even when well sealed: often the sealant or stain is more of a problem). I understand Mahogany once well seasoned is stable ....like wise cherry wood is stable so long as the sealant ( varnish) is stable. Normally the trays in the cabinet are not treated in any way

Update - I got my first ounce of silver a couple days ago, it wasn't a bar but I actually changed my mind a couple days after posting my first list. Still have four things to do though: Completely catalog my coins; Get my first ASE; Add some more to my First Day Of Issue Presidentials; Start Collecting Counterfeits. I have started on catalog my coins, but I'm not done yet. Overall, a great start to the 2013 year.

- Finish my World War II set -
Inspired by https://goccf.com/t/89100
- 1942-1945 - P,D,S -

- Finish my Vietnam War Years set -
- 1955-1975, Cents, Dimes, Nickels, Quarters, Halves -
- Year only set, would be a massive set otherwise -

- Get back to my Mercury dime set -
The reason I started collecting in the first place. Woefully neglected, and pulled from.

Mines to start collecting!
I'm looking to acquire at the moment pennies of late 1800 to early 1900. Hopefully that's a good first target

My goal is more modest than many.

I completed my US small cent circulating collection in 2012 (Well, except for the 1856 FE) and now am looking into prior US Large Cents. I have a few and will try to get a few more.

I'm a bit late on starting a goal list, but I think that I need one more than most to get me on a track instead of browsing ebay every single night under the coin section and looking/drooling over every coin on there.

1. Organize what I have...Cheat on this one as I got Exact Change for Christmas and am moving forward well with it.
2. Pick up any level of ability to grade a coin.
3. Aquire all of the coin supplies for the various collections that I want. (Right now every coin is in a large dollar 2x2 as thats all that I have.)
4. Purchase 7070, IHC, and Merc Albums.
5. Stop purchasing all of the leftovers off of ebay. (I have a horrible habit right now of if it is a coin going for .99-$4 then I buy regardless of condition.)
6. Purchase 3 more ASEs. (Currently have 2012-2006.)

Umm yeah... I'm sure that I'll have to make a few changes to all of this soon enough as I'm still not locked into any sets other than Morgans, Merc, and IHCs. Definatly want a few Commems.
