Being British born I can understand the desire to criticize the influential and famous and to p***k their bubbles (apparently the word I inserted must be considered lewd, hence the edit). Just read up on Hogarth and other British satirists.
And before anyone picks me up on this...I know that Thailand has some of the strictest lese majeste laws in the world. I'd love to comment further so...wait there's a knock on the door, I'll just answe...
...
arghh, no, I wasn't going to criticize...what's that? A cattle prod? Nooooo.....

this 2 euro coin got a new design at the north of the european map.

I know that modification but I believe it is pure photoshop...
unlike the Spanish one.

Image removed ? Gosh ... what a joke ...
Hopefully no one did a repro of L'origine du monde by Gustave Courbet ...

I don't remember exactly how it looked, but I think the features were not possible on an original coin considering how it looked.

Personally, I consider it healthy for society to find humor in awkward situations--even if it means holding up a mirror to an 'emperor without clothes'. It's cathartic and empowering.

I didn't see the original image, let's be careful to not get too burlesque on a family-friendly site. I didn't really start this thread to "push the envelope".

Are you serious? What part of "If you wouldn't want your 10 year old daughter to see it, then don't post it here." and "No bad language, unacceptable pictures, or links to any sites that contain them." do you not get?

I am very sorry, posting the picture of this euro coin.
didnt know that this was unacceptable. so its not allowed to show pictures with eurocoins and the european map?
(also no roman coins or a 17th century medal with a nude venus?)

sorry its kind of different to europe. I heard a lot of the prude in the US, but never expected it could hit myself...

The coins are sure no fotoshop. I saw the spanish one in real at the Numismata coinshow.
By the way: did anyone translated the legend from the swedish coin? only a question...

Platinrubel: I was a bit surprised that it was removed as well. However I understand and accept the concern. However to those of us living in Europe the reaction can seem strange. I think those we who live outside of the USA see the worst of American culture on our TVs and aren't so conscious of the real USA.

For those of you in the US I was a bit shocked when I first moved to Austria. It seemed that when the sun came out the clothes came off( in the Park areas out side of the city only) but with an apparently bizarre twist: those who shouldn't were the ones that predominantly did ( I hope that is subtle enough). My apologies in advance if that has crossed the line. Although I have been here 12 years there is just one thing I still can't do ( much to the amusement of My German and Austrian Colleagues) and that is go to the Sauna.

jbuck : sorry, we have a different point of view then.
I never understood this fainted puritanism (how would a 10yo doughter guess what this was if she hadn't seen it in the first place ? What's the issue there ... I have young kids).
Naked greek / roman coins are banned as well ? The republic of Palau mermaid ones ? ...
Anyway, we are getting off topic, I'm not the housekeeper here.

OK, I will respect the censorship, but I do not understand it.

I never pretended the Spanish coin was photo-shop.
The modified removed map is. A joke, which in my opinion will put no ten year old daughter in any danger as they should not be able to understand it...

No, but they sure can ask someone "Why is this funny?" and put a parent in a position they do not need to be in.

Ultimately, your opinion does not matter. We make the rules. End of story.

I'll say it again : I'm fully able to explain to my child what's on that coin, why some may laugh at it, and what not to do.
Sure, end of the story, we agreed on that (I said that to conclude my previous post).
But we can still say we don't understand - even if you don't care, we do care of giving our opinion.

Anyway, I'm disappointed, if this coin was photoshopped, hence it's not interesting...
Anyone got other interesting parody on coins ?

Since this topic has turned into a debate about our rules, which are not negotiable, I will have the last word.
