It would be cool to get to Florida in the winter and meet a few CCF'ers--but I already spent so much traveling for Christmas. It would be awesome to get to a big show--most shows here have no more than a dozen tables--I can only imagine the cherrypicking opportunities.

Yeah, same here DVC. All the local shows have perhaps a dozen tables, and all those dealing in modern coins.

The New York International is this coming weekend, Jan. 10-13, 2013. The big dealers will all be there. It is by far the biggest show for ancient coins.

When a coin show schedules itself at the same time as one of the really big shows, they are saying they don't want the big dealers or realize that they will not attract the big dealers anyway. Since I rarely have the money to buy from the big dealers anyway, this might even be considered an advantage.

I generally can't afford the big dealers anyway.

Bing, it's good that you'll be there two days. It's a huge show. As vermontensium said, there'll be a ton of dealers and whatever numismatic-related you may be looking for. I'm looking forward to meeting the staff on Thursday when I'll be going.

Quote: Work your magic I plan to try. Thanks Quote: with you and the Misses and talk coins The Misses doesn't speak coins. It's not her thing and she says she does not understand my obsession with the hobby.

Very few people understand that obsession outside of people that collect. Anymore than people understand drug addiction and alcoholism. That's just the way it is.

Ok, I got home this afternoon from the FUN show in Orlando. I have never been to a coin show so large. I'll bet I did not see one tenth of the dealers there. However, in all honesty, there were only a few dealers dedicated to Ancients. I did find some dealers with a mix of modern, foreign and Ancient. It was one of these that I spend the vast majority of my time. In fact, it was a dealer recommended to me by Doug. This dealer was more than willing to spend time with me, talking about my collection, her coins, and her own personal story. As it turns out, her husband's family is from an area in West Virginia near where my family is from. My family is from a small patch in the road called Sam Black Church. It was so nice to run into people who are familiar with this area.
But I've gotten off topic. During my two days at the show, I was able to handled some very nice coins. I was sorely tempted to buy, but, much to my surprise, I was able to control myself. I only purchased three coins which I will post separately. I need some help with attribution on one. I also have my eye on one other I might just buy via the internet.
I also stopped by the CCF display and got to meet several; of the moderators I've only posted with prior. Why is it no one ever looks like you might imagine? They were all enthusiastic with not only meeting me, but with dealing with the throngs of people streaming by. I can highly recommend this show to anyone of you if you ever have the chance. But plan to spend a lot of time if you want to try to get around the entire show.

Sounds good, glad you enjoyed it and looking forward to seeing what you bought, especially the one that still needs attributing, intriguing
