For those who think flipping coins on ebay is easy, this how it breaks down:

Selling price: $53.83 - ebay fees (9%):$4.84 - Paypal fee:$1.88 = $47.10
Shipping price: $19.99 - ebay fees (9%):$1.80 - Paypal fee:$0.70 = $17.49

$47.10 + $17.49 = $64.59
minus the original price of the coin = $30.70
minus shipping (profit)= $18 - $21 (depending on location)

minus your time to create the auction, time to package and ship = not a huge profit / hours invested.

It works out better if you have more of the same item, like 10 or 20 coins. Then your margins increase. But to flip one coin, not worth it. But if you are limited to three and keep one flipping only two, you basically get one coin for free. Still worth flipping.

That's pretty accurate thus the reason for getting so many of a certain coin.

In my opinion, all this time invested on ebay is also part (or a complement) to the hobby of collecting/trading/selling coins. That's how I see it!

@agrenier

I think you missed my point. My point is that ebay sales are not easy. Not that they are not worth doing. If you are going to dedicate your time for profit ebay is not always the best way to do it. With all the effort involved you could be making less than minimum wage. If you try and flip the current bird coins you could be loosing money. Better to get a part time job at McDonalds, you will make more money to buy coins. My point is also that with careful selection and by selling quantity you can maximize your profit potential.

It seams as if when you say "profit" people treat you as though you are using a four letter word. As agrenier mentioned this is for me part of the hobby. I don't do it to support myself but to increase my collection. I think a lot of collectors have discovered this as being a necessity of the hobby.

Another thing that people don't realize is that to sell to the US it is better to price your item in US dollars. Paypals conversion from US to Canadian is .95 With the dollar at par we loose 5% on the exchange. Very easy to loose money on ebay.

is incorrect
Selling price: $53.83 - ebay fees:~$3.65 - Paypal fee:$1.88 = $48.30
Shipping price: $19.99 - ebay fees:$0.80 - Paypal fee:$0.70 = $18.49

Real shipping can be as low as $6.50 within Canada (and up to ~12) so that sale is not that bad for an item not in hands yet.

I do not know how to calculate ROI here as money already received while he has not invested a penny yet

not for stores! Small store BIN for under $50 item is more expensive than auction w/o store.
