Muddler has a point too. I'm not a commem collector so I don't know much. I've seen him around the commem forum sections so maybe his inputs are valid. I guess it really depends on what commems/morgans you can get and what their price is. Kinda hard to say without seeing anything.

If you think you may part with them someday the Morgans will be easier to find a home for--more than likely. Just a thought. Also I'd have to say the value on the Morgans is probably better than the commems--soley based on much higher deisrability and mass appeal.

The way I'd look at it is which is the easiest, fastest to get rid of if you wanted to. Not easy to sell commemoratives.

If you can buy Morgans in AU or better condition for $26 go with that. You can turn around and sell them for $35-40 with little effort. If it was me I would buy everything because those are better prices then I have seen in a year.

It was a crazy day .. glad it is now slowing down. I ended buying 25 Morgans and more, they are in a littleton two album set. I also picked up a 1908 S Indian Head cent and two fractional notes (10 cent and a 5 cent) Plus a 2013 proof eagle (can't believe someone sold a complete collection with this coin in it, it has only been out a couple weeks) oh and a 2007, 2009 and 2010 proof set and 2000, 2001 mint set. ( I need these so I can pull the Kennedy halves for my Dansco) After all that I still had $24.00 left in my pocket, they sold me a 1893 Ladies Waltham pocket watch .. and it seems to be running good.

Sounds like a good day to add to your collection. The 2013 proof eagle, was it in the OGP? Why would someone sell a coin just purchased from the mint (at surly a loss)?

Looks like it worked out for you. I also think it is odd that a proof coin that has only been out a few weeks shows up in this.
I wish I could get the 50 Morgans you left behind. I have not seen $26 AU+ Morgans in my area for a long, long time. I would buy them all.

Muddler .. yes the 2013 ASE is in the box with COA .. I paid $50 for it .. There was also 3 for each year from 2000 through 2011 and a 2012. Plus there was the 2012 two coin proof set, I would have bought that also .. but I have mine. Quote: I wish I could get the 50 Morgans you left behind. I have not seen $26 AU+ Morgans in my area for a long, long time. I would buy them all. I picked out the first 20 .. then 5 more at a little better price. There ended up being another 110 they were going to ship off to a large bullion dealer. For me being in the right place and willing to purchase a good amount helps get good prices. I am sure buying three 1oz gold coins last week helped with this sale. It really was hard seeing all those commemorative dollars and not buying some ... was hard .. but I do like the Morgans I picked up .. I will try to get some pictures and start a thread of them

I stand corrected. I would like to buy the remaining 110 Morgans. I have bought 5-6 rolls of Dollars in the last year and have never been offered prices like that.

Actually I like Morgans but they seem to be overpriced and a really nice slabbed one is costly especially for the key dates. Also completing a collection of Morgans is beyond most collectors means just to get them in mint state condition. I find Commemoratives to be the New Morgans. I say that because they are mostly silver except for the clad issues, they have much lower mintages. The older commemoratives even in MS66 or MS67 are still affordable even though I will admit that some are a few thousand dollars. I have just purchased a 1948 PDS (NGC) MS 65,65 and 66 Booker T. Washington Set that I got for $410. As for the Modern Commemoratives; they are easily obtainable in MS69 and MS70. Usually you can find them in MS 69 reasonable and though I usually go for the 70 grade they are still reasonable if you look around. The moderns come in Proof and MS. Usually MS is more valuable cause less of them were issued but you can't go wrong with proof. I don't want to collect the complete set but even if I did it would still be possible to do at a reasonable cost. I have acquired a nice set of Modern Commemoratives and I have a mixture of MS69 Proofs and MS70 and MS70 proofs. The thing that I really like about commemoratives older or newer is the History behind each commemorative; very interesting reading it is. Those are my reasons for Commemoratives over Morgans.
