Blue toning you'll see a lot on older proof coins, and some copper. Mostly in the proof issues, and many that sat in the cabinets I mentioned last post, I bleieve either the velvet itself or possibly the glue that was used in the construction of the cabinet helped to contribute to the toning. Not uncommon at all when you go back and look at older 1970's and 80's auction catalouges, a lot of proof set coins have very similar colors. More on the Blue and green side of the spectrum. The Garrett is one auction I remember that had a lot of beuatiful blue green toned seated stuff.

westcoin...appreciate your knowledge as that's one aspect I would have not thought of and it makes perfect sense with the years these coins would have been there and I suppose the inside temperature could also be a factor... Makes me feel better about the color and the different enviroments that could cause these blues & greens...Thanks again..

Well I'm far from an expert though I have done a lot of ANA seminars and been mentored by many so called "big dealers" send it in to PCGS and see what it comes back at. SusanLynn9 may be correct as much as any of us, I see where she is talking about wear, which I didn't really see my first examination. And that could be the area that keeps it out of mint state territory. The toning looks good, I don't think it's AT. Keep up up to date on the coin. I sure hope it comes back as a MS example if you submit it.

D, CONGRATS! Yours is truly an amazing coin. I recently sent my 1827 in for grading and it came back as AU-58 / cleaned. Disappointed about the cleaning , but it still is a very lusterous, attracive coin for the grade . Although I am just seeing this topic, my first impression of your coin would've been MS-62...

The PCGS 63 I mentioned earlier went for $3818.75 at Heritage, but the value was inflated by its' provenance from the Dale Friend collection (a prominent Half Dollar collector who owned many finest-ever examples). With that said, they've only ever offered 4 of these in Mint State - two 61's, a 63 and a 64. You've got something very special here, definitely a new member of the Condition Census for the variety.

SsuperDdave...excellent point & thanks for bringing that up as I am not that familiar with the US Bust varieties. I went to the NGC site and for this variety 0 - 107 the highest previously graded by them is a MS61. I am now just starting to understand how lucky I am.. Thanks again, I appreciate your knowledge...

This one nice coin. AU-58 or MS cleaning? I don't think so but don't hold me to it. O-107 without a doubt. Nice pics I have an AM-Scope for my close up. I would love to see this one under it.

Super Coin, so glad you got that in a MS63 holder! It sure looked like a perfect candidate if there ever was one. An excellent lesson on grading to all of us here at CCF, thanks for sharing this wonderful coin with us D.
P.S. Might even CAC green bean too if you're ever inclined.
