I hope I'm wrong but it looks like AU details based on the obverse. Very cool die crack on the reverse, however.

The surfaces are rough, but there appears to be little or no wear. On wear alone, AU55.
You can't grade on roughness alone, but if you could, compared to a freshly minted coin: something like VF25? Maybe I have been fooled by the lighting. From the pictures I see in my screen, 'LIBERTY' is quite indistinct.
Difficult for me to grade this one.

At first I thought I was seeing corrosion or PVC surface damage, but I decided to investigate. I can tell it's in an older white holder from ANACS so that means older grading standards. I saved the photos, tweaked the lighting and exposure in Photoshop a touch. tying to stay to what I thought the true colors are in hand, now I see a bunch of luster not surface damage, hmmm. It was way back when ANACS grading standards on copper and bronze coins was tough too, I do NOT see wear from circulation, only a good sized tick on the forehead. A cool die crack on the reverse too. I'm in at MS63RB back then maybe even MS64. Hope you don't mind if I put up my "Altered" images so you can see my conclusions. I really like this cent regardless of what ANACS said. It's a winner! I also notice you are having the same problem I'm having with photographing coins in slabs. Mostly only in NCG holders or ANACS older holders like this. The coin will tilt and at close macro shooting distances out of focus becomes a big issue, the softness in the Indian feathers on the headdress and the LIBERTY on the headband are soft due to the tilt of the coin versus the camera squareness, this can be very hard to compensate for very accurately. The newer edge view coins seem to better held in a flat position.

Thanks WestCoin, that is closer to the color in hand. I've had more issues lately with coin photography, changed my lighting and am trying to use a point and shoot, due to ease of use over my old bulky digital.....however that old bulky digital does a better job. Never get the results you want when you cut corners.

Imma go EF45, maybe AUFiddy. Sure has a funky look to it. Almost like oil or varnish has been put on it. A very unnatural look to it.

Looking at the date, I think the obverse is out of focus a bit--which makes it hard to see wear points. Grading this one is a bit of a guess. I think I see rub on the wreath--AU55?

And here she is. I would venture the range in grades has to do with my poor photography skills. I would say that this one has a chance of upgrading to a 62 to 63 slab.

Clearly my IHC grading skills need some work...

At first I couldn't see any wear and thought it could be an MS coin, but after westcoin tweaked and lightened your photo, then I could see a little wear. I think AU 58 is a fair grade. Either way that is a nice IHC. That certainly was a challlenging coin(photo)to grade.

I always have a hard time with weak strike vs. legitimate wear, especially on AU or better pieces, and depending on the photos in question it's even tougher to discern.

AU58 usually denotes a full, sharp strike. Given the feathertips on this one--I was more inclined to low MS than 58--but I'm grading from pics--congrats!
