I think the frustrating part of this price drop is it could have been done a month ago - before the release of the Proof Set - when they dropped the other prices. Now it looks like the mint gouged early buyers and subscription buyers, and then looked for new buyers to boost sales after the 1st group was done. I think the same can be said for the Quarters...and the Congratulations sets... looking for a boost in sales.
The irony is for me - I got my proof set and my week was up - I couldn't even ship them back!
On the plus side - the coins look perfect in this set.

I understand the pricing (Clad Proof price + spot for the silver) but they are still too expensive for me to buy. I just purchased 3 silver quarter proof sets on ebay for $26 each shipped to my door. I guess it will be a couple of years before I buy a 2013 set.

An easy $1.5 million + profit by U.S Mint on the early silver proof sets. :/
The early sells were over 214,000 . . .

I dont think they charge your card until the package is actually shipped so you might get lucky!

Wow... it sure didn't make sense to be a subscriber. I might have to re-think my subscriptions to ASE's, Presidential dollars and Silver Proof Sets.

Bama - I removed all my subscriptions. I won' get caught again buying for the first couple of weeks. At least now the early release and first releases of these sets will have a valid premium... :)

Its true price does increase sometimes. However I dont see any reason to have a subscription because you dont get any discount from it. Since its the same as ordering your self I would rather just order when I feel like ordering. Plus like has been mentioned you can double up those orders with other things and save on shipping or get free shipping upgrades from doing so where the subscription takes away that added benefit and really only saves you the effort of filling out the order

I actually had the subscriptions set up because I tend to lose track of the time and in the past didn't watch the mint that close. I decided this year I was going to buy what I wanted from the mint (normally I hem and haw around it and then skip some of the stuff). Naturally when I pick this year to subscribe... I get slammed with multiple shipping charges and then they lower the prices after my order has shipped... I actually think I paid about $35 in shipping this month because of subscriptions and the other odd orders. Not doing it again...

Thats a brutal shipping charge. I thought about doing the subscriptions because it would be nice to not have to check release dates all the time but I didnt like how you couldnt bundle things that were released close to each other even though they could ship at the same time with some of the delays they have

I guess when you're on auto delivery, they just put it as an order at the time. If you want to group I guess you have to call it in or do an internet order

If you have a free afternoon and a smart phone you can be alerted when new products come out by setting alarms in your calendar and avoid the subscriptions. I don't buy into first strike, first run all that much from the TPGs, especially if the product is really limited and minted all in one batch. The US Mint should start a text alert messaging service, but it's too much of a hassle for them, they must think the email announcements are sufficient.

Yeah - well I cancelled all my subscriptions. I had to cancel my ASE order and reorder it so I could change it to 2 anyways. I like the set it and forget it idea of the subscriptions - but I think I like the idea of holding off a week or 2 now before ordering to see what the prices are doing. So far this year, I had 2 proof ASE the Silver Proof set and the Quarter sets... all get lowered in price - after I already had them.. at least I didn't have the ATB before hand. Add in all the extra shipping and they have kind of got me anyway...
