As far as the grade being conservative-do you think it's worth it to resubmit this to another service? I'd read that coins graded in earlier ANACS holders tend to be undergraded

Nice coin! Seems this one would reslab at an AU-50 or 53 grade. Just shows how much the grading standards have changed.

nice indeed! I love hose old ANACS holders, I don't know why but there my favorite out of all of them...

Ya, if you want to resubmit it go ahead, as mentioned it won't go worse... Personally I don't know if I would, but as mentioned its because I'm partial to those old holders...

Certainly looks like a strong 45. Eye appeal in-hand may or may not be great due to the "shadows" around the devices. I've seen them go either way with similar photos and you really need to see it. As far as a re-grade? 5 points isn't worth re-submitting to most people. I'd leave it in thee old ANACS holder.

Got the coin today. It actually looks great in-hand. It has a really nice purple tone and luster when you turn the coin. This will make some of you cringe but I decided to remove it from the holder and put it in a flip with the rest of my coins since I don't plan on selling it. Interesting note: the back of the coin makes it look perfectly circular, but there are slight indentations on the rim when viewed from the front. I thought these might've been dings from damage but then I noticed the edge lettering was pressed into the rims too high up on the edge causing some of the letters to "overflow" onto the obverse of the coin. This would account for why the reverse is perfectly round. Has anyone ever seen this?

Yes, it is common for the edge lettering on CBH to cut into the obverse or reverse of the coin and look like a rim ding in some cases.

Glad the eye appeal is there! Photos can be tricky sometimes and I was a bit concerned when you first posted the images since I've coins from similar images that had neutral to negative eye appeal in-hand.

Many collectors like to crack out their coins and enjoy them au natural. Nothing beats holding history in your hands. Take good care of them and be sure you have non-PVC flips and all is well.

You are right though>It's definitely different from the pictures>again, more of a yellow and purple tone than the gold color.

My flips are PVC free! (;

Not really - there are a lot of us on the forum who free our coins from holders unless it's a MS coin. Bust Halfs and Large Cents are my favorite coins and any I purchased in holders are free. It's great to imagine which of our founding fathers also held that coin.
