It arrived at PCGS this morning on a 5 day submission so we will know by call it Thursday next week. It is a XF-45 lock for sure. I cant get over the proof like fields on the thing. In a JUST world PCGS will label it as a PL "but we all know that will not happen" the reflective fields do fall into the book guild-lines all the same.

I do not believe that any TPG would designate a circulated coin as PL.

..or am I wrong...again?

They have in the past. I have seen a few PCGS Au-58's and 1 Au-55 and more then a few handfulls of both NGC and ANACS. About 10 years back all 3 did PL real PL coins, if the coin really was a PL. I saw Ash H 1888 O Hot Lips in MS-60 PL last week in hand, it was very cool

Those are some silly fields. I'd love to have seen this one straight out of the Mint - it had to have been DMPL. V60?

I have an 1896-S in AU50 DMPL from ANACS old holder, I'll have to check on the date but I'm pretty sure that 's it.

Nice I traded away one of the Long Nocks for some other coins to Larry Briggs, mine was the discovery to one of the 70's numbered VAMs AU55PL looked a lot like this one with less scratches, more peripheral toning.
