Is this going to be the "new normal"

I would say yes. The Dansco albums (as well as the intercepts and Whitmans and Light House) are awesome ways in which to store AND display coins, Makes looking theough your collection much easier and protects the coins just as much as any 2x2. More so IMO.

That being said, I do not see these albums replacing other means of storage. To many different kinds of coins out there for that to happen. Plus far to many folks out there that will not break a coin out of its slab.

Oh man, it's like coin nirvana! Here's the Danscos which are full or almost full. I started to bring out the Intercept Shield albums, which are my "A" set, but frankly, it was tiring and I was running out of steam. Some of them are still in the picture.

A couple neat things to point out, (I think so, at least).

1) I have two Euro books, because the Euro book is only designed to hold coins from the original members. I use a second book and a Brother label maker to customize a second book for all the new issuers of Euros.

2) I took a generic half dollar book, flipped the pages over, and started a collection of large UK Pennies, 1862-1967.

3) And, I took a blank Dansco, and put in assorted millimeter pages. In there, I collect various foreign coin sets, ie Aruba 5 cents, Australia 20 cents, etc.

Jwguts
Nice looking set of coins you have there, I like different types you are putting together.

Most times members will not post their complete collection, but if there is interest we could
start a new thread and see what we can get.

Maybe I will stop at the bank and get some out of my SDB. If there is some interest.

My preference for Canadian coins is Gardmaster albums.

They're brown with gold embossing like Dansco, but a couple big differences.

1) They have a plastic or vinyl cover, unlike the imitation leather of a Dansco. That's the only thing I like less about these compared to Dansco.

2) They use a pouch and slide system, instead of a hole with a plastic slide cover. I like that a LOT more than Dansco.

I've also tried Uni-Safe, and they also have the pouch and slide system. They also seem to have better posts for adding pages. But I leaned toward the Gardmaster because they look better on a bookshelf.

Easier for an investor than for a collector to keep stuff in a SDB. Do you find yourself bringing stuff home often? I do!

My bank knows me very well, from going there so often.

I try to keep higher value sets, that are completed at the bank. And try to remember what coins I might want to upgrade. I also keep single row 2X2 boxes, for just better coins.

I really dont like those albums witht eh slide out pockets. Once they get older, the slide outs tends to stick to the pages. I had to take a pair of tin snips to the last set of those I dealt with. And the coins were not in that great a shape. I dont think it protected them at all well. Coins from the same collection kept in the same conditions in Whitmans version of the Dansco albums were just fine.

Hello Gr58 I am new to the forum and was looking for answers to a question and in the search I found your tread about your dansco Statehood Quarters. I got out of collecting years ago and wanted to get back in. I will have to purchase a complete set of Statehood Quarters (P&D w/s-proof & silver proof) to not have a gap in my Washington quarter collection. Would you ever be interested I. Selling one whole set?

Thanks

I just picked up the P&D National Parks Dansco album off ebay for $6.50 with free shipping talk about score now I can start the National Parks quarters.

I have been debating getting a Dansco for my Statehood Quarters but was in the coin shop and they have the two album set with the proofs complete for $175 that seems like the best value to me. I mean ok so I have all the P&D's if I blow $60 on two albums I'd have to manage to get all the proofs for $115. That seems unlikely as there are 100 coins (both silver and clad proofs) seems very unlikely I'd manage to go each coin for about a dollar a coin with the silver proofs. I could just sell my current set that at worse case scenario is $25 face value and just get the completed sets with proofs.

Pipewelder welcome to CCF

I do have to say, that new members are not allowed to buy, sell or trade
until they get enough quality post.

But once you have been on this site and qualify, I try to help out other collectors, and don't mind selling if the price is fair.

Sirdizzy, $175 is a crazy price for a two album State Quarter set.
The shop I help out would pay $175 for any 90% silver quarters.

In a State Quarter set, just the 1999 quarter would cost $70 to $100 dollars.
The 2008 quarters are also higher than silver price.

I would look that set over, to make sure there really are the 50 silver proofs.

If it is the P,D, clad proof and silver proofs quarters ... I would buy that set for $200 with out even thinking about it.

I must say that GR58 has been a great resource for modern coins and information about them. Recently he had provided me with a 1932-1998 Dansoc album nearly full with the clad coins including proofs. Back in the 70's I had decided to only collect silver and my quarters ran derelict for over 30 years. He has re-sparked my interest in the series and has been a great collaborator since I joined this sight.
