Quote: If I started updated the type set it would never stop and thats all I would do. Basebal21 it sounds like we are on the same track. I pretty much know what the lowest grade coins are in my type set .. and my Washington quarter 1932 to 1998 albums. Every time I pick up those albums, those are the coins I look at... the bad ones. And want to get better ones. But to upgrade them would cost me at least a hundred dollars per coin. I am trying to move my focus right now. Wanting to - Put 90% U.S. silver away - Foreign silver, if I can get, close to melt - Small gold coins - Ike dollarsIf good quality coins come along then I will try to purchase them. Like the 1794 large cent I am hoping to work a deal on.

I am trying to stay focused I just want to complete a 7070 just once LOL then I can worry about upgrading. I have done very good my last 4 coins or so have all been for my 7070 (picked up my 3 cent silver piece yesterday a 1861 in Fine, I was tempted by a Seated Liberty quarter, dime and Half Dime though but that was the nicest trime they had in my budget and didn't want anyone else grabbing it, I am trying to stay around the $50 coin unless I see something that really catches my eye like I saw a nice XF and AU Type 1 Standing Liberty quarter I'll save up for). If I ever finish then I'll look at upgrading some of the coins. My next purchase won't be for my 7070 I had her order me a Whitman Classic 20th Century type album for my little boy and I'll grab him the Franklin half he needs when I get it. First coin in that book will be a franklin as that was the very first numismatic coin I ever bought as I started with silver rounds until I saw the Franklins. I have done well they have a Boy Scout commemorative that I really want for $39 but I keep putting it off for the 7070 coins.

Thats basically my thoughts. I had a set back when I started since I started a raw set but the modern coins started to tone so I didnt like that and decided to do a graded one. That of course led to me wanting better coins or more key date or semi key date instead of just common coins for everything so I basically had to start over. I'm one of those people that doesn't like a couple hundred dollar coin like the Seated dollar just sitting in an album anyway. Most of them are just vf to xf, some I got graded some I found raw and got good deals on but now I wont buy one unless I would be happy having that as the coin in the set for good. This of course is making it take MUCH longer than I intended so for the most part my other sets are just sitting there unfinished. I'm really happy with what I have so far but have kind of come to a standstill trying to find some of the harder ones I have targeted. I could do the moderns really fast but Id rather say the money for something better at the moment

I've gotten my 1932-1998 Quarter set whipped into pretty good shape, proofs and all. BUT, every time I saw the sorry looking 32-D and 32-S in that book, I cringed. Like you guys, I had a lot of trouble justifying hundreds of dollars for a single coin.
My solution so far... I packed up my 32-D and 32-S for safe keeping, and plunked REPLICAs into my Dansco album. Ha-ha! Those coins don't stand out like a sore thumb anymore. Yes, they are like "placeholders" but I know I have the actual coins stored away.

JW thats one of my big problems for the Washington set. You can do an nice ms set pretty cheap then all of a sudden you either need to spend a few thousand or have some that just clearly dont fit in.
I do like you idea of putting something else there and just having them ut of the album, but I also kind of just want to throw the first page away like it doesn't exist lol

Obviously, right? Not quite as nice a set as my quarters, but in this case I simply will never own that coin. And yet, I must fill that hole.

Those are all my Dansco's laid out except for the second Ike album. That one is up for sale, so I left it out. Now, all of these are not complete, but a lot are. Including the evil Statehood set. LOL AND, this is only MY set. This is not including VACookeys.

Another nice looking set of Dansco albums, thanks for sharing. I like looking at pictures like this.
It is interesting to see what sets other collectors are putting together.
Making me want to do another picture, to see if I can capture some of my progress.

I have no complete sets and only two danscos currently going. The 7070 and a Sacagawea. I do have a Whitman album for Presidential dollars, a folder for Statehood Quarters and a 20th century type album to replace the folder I had on that one. I just did a page for modern commemorative halves that when its complete I'll throw it in the back of the Dansco just bought the 89 Congress and 91 Mount Rushmore. They don't make a lot of modern commemorative halves seemed silly to do an album for just 2 pages but then again my Sacagawea is just two pages (but I will just buy the extra pages when we get there).

That's two great shots. Is this going to be the "new normal" shot of a collection?! It sure is eye catching and also fuels my own OCD. I might have to do one too. Not all Dansco's, though.

Quote: Is this going to be the "new normal" I would say yes. The Dansco albums (as well as the intercepts and Whitmans and Light House) are awesome ways in which to store AND display coins, Makes looking theough your collection much easier and protects the coins just as much as any 2x2. More so IMO. That being said, I do not see these albums replacing other means of storage. To many different kinds of coins out there for that to happen. Plus far to many folks out there that will not break a coin out of its slab.

Oh man, it's like coin nirvana! Here's the Danscos which are full or almost full. I started to bring out the Intercept Shield albums, which are my "A" set, but frankly, it was tiring and I was running out of steam. Some of them are still in the picture. A couple neat things to point out, (I think so, at least). 1) I have two Euro books, because the Euro book is only designed to hold coins from the original members. I use a second book and a Brother label maker to customize a second book for all the new issuers of Euros. 2) I took a generic half dollar book, flipped the pages over, and started a collection of large UK Pennies, 1862-1967. 3) And, I took a blank Dansco, and put in assorted millimeter pages. In there, I collect various foreign coin sets, ie Aruba 5 cents, Australia 20 cents, etc.
