I could be wrong but my initial impression is it is not a proof for the same reason that acloco has mentioned.

I thought the rims had been cropped from the images? Only 3 business strike Lincolns have ever graded 66BN at PCGS. If it is a business strike it could still be a valuable Top Pop.

The very sharp detail suggests a proof, or at least a very early strike off fresh dies. I would say it has been deliberately retained or collected, probably straight from the Mint.
It is a moot point if it is a proof or just a pristine very early business strike, the value would be much the same.
It may be a very slightly impaired proof; there are one or two tiny dings in it. That is unfortunate, but perhaps not too surprising. Coin collecting didn't quite have the status that it has now, so less perfect care has been taken, early in it's life.

If you look at the 1 o'clock position there is a very minor Cud on the rim...makes me doubt how early a strike it is...still an awesome coin!

Thanks for all the replies guys. Proof or not I decided to pick it up. I will post it in the grading section in a few days when I receive it. Hopefully it looks as good in hand.

I like it better as a Business Strike than as a Proof. You'd expect this quality from the latter, but it's an extraordinary example of the former.

Thanks guys! I agree, for a business strike it's stunning. If it looks this good in hand it will be the best looking Lincoln I have by far. I plan on sending it in but not sure where I want to send it yet. If I can get a few more coins together I'd like to send it to PCGS. I have another LWC I have been thinking about sending in, and I could always send in my 2013 ASE west point set but I like the OGP.. So we will see. I would be thrilled to death if it did end up being a top pop coin.

Awesome coin. If anyone could kindly articulate what makes a proof a proof (especially with older coins, as I'm not sure what to look for) that would be fantastic, as I don't know the difference either. I saw the link to PSGS posted above, but I'm not a member, so I can't see it.

Proofs are not intended for circulation. They are struck on special planchets, with special dies, and are struck more than once. Here are two proofs from the PCGS link.

Definitely not a proof. The master hub was re-done in 1916 so all MS coins have nice detail.
MS-64BN and it might even land in a 58 holder if you submit. The right wheat shows rub on the lines and the rims indicate a bit of wear. Still, a nice toner!
