Quote: What a beautiful set. How long did it take you to put it together? Did you do a lot of upgrading over time or did you wait for the "right" coin for each year, buy it and stick with it? This is set #1 of 6. I constantly upgrade all my sets, little by little. Bad habit of mine is to get a newer, higher grade coin, if good enough, goes into set #1, The one from #1 goes into #2 and on and on and on. Eventually the last one goes into a 2x2 and into a box. When enough of these are there, I start another set. Quote: How about sharing some of you numerous other sets. Could be interesting. Will be doing that soon with Mercury dimes. My set #1 is almost all FSB's. Just waiting for the next coin show to pick up a 16D with FSB's. However, still need about 5 others in FSB to make it complete.

You're ahead of me by 3 IHC's (1870,1889 & 1897). My set is all slabbed and MS-63 or better. And, yes, I need an 1856 also.

Amazing It takes a lot of commitment (and $$$, of course) to build a set such as this. How long have you been collecting these IHCs? Congratulations

Just missed out getting that 1856 but just didn't have the money then. In reality for about 50 years. This is set #1 of 6.

funny how the 1858 Indian cents are much cheaper than the 1856 flying eagle.

"funny how the 1858 Indian cents are much cheaper than the 1856 flying eagle." EXACTLY. They both have ~ the same mintages (1200) yet, the 1858 Indian gets no respect. Why does the RedBook see fit to add the 1856 flying eagle, but, not the 1858 indian?

Do yourself a favor and buy yourself an 1858 Indian cent BEFORE you lobby Whitman to get it in the folder; that will be what drives demand. First you might want to get its value listed in Coin Prices and Coins.

Actually, 52Raymo, I LOVE that 'ornamental shield' on the 1858 you posted. I have one of those shields on an 1859 Indian, would love the matching 1858. My budget won't allow me to get another!
