Quote: True, true, but those proofs could be in worse shape. Agreed. The sooner they can be saved, the better. These appear to have been saved in time. I meant to comment on this earlier... Quote: I wonder what makes a person so desperate for money that they crack a proof set open and spend it... More often than not, it is an heir or a thief cashing in these coins, and neither realize what they have has value beyond face.

Quote: In the current 2015 RedBook, it has a book value of $50. You sure about that? I know the price on the 2001 S proof Sac has been dropping for years. In the 2014 RedBook it's down to $15. Why would it quadruple in one year? The 2001 clad proof set is listed as $18. What is the 2001 clad proof set listed for in the 2015 book?

It was a gas station that does sell liquor, so yeah, more or less the same.

yup, that's where I have heard a lot of them come from.. People either steal them or break into someone else's coins to buy booze and cigs.

These figures should tell you something is wrong with the prices. Getting a PF-65 out of a set should be childs play, so why would a set be $18 to $20, and a single coin in the set three times as much as the entire set? Sure the sum of the individual coin in a set normally add up to more than the set price, but not a single coin being three times as much. And if you check out the sold listings on ebay you will see that slabbed PF-69 by the major TPG's have gone for as low as $9.

I wasn't, I was pointing out the fact they are flawed. Quote: I checked sold listings too, you can snag em under ten bucks sometimes five bucks. You can get raw ones for under $5, but I think the $9 price was the lowest for a Major TPG slabbed PF-69. (And these things did actually bring $75 to $100 at one time.)

Quote:A business dropped these beauties off in a deposit. 5 proof Sacageweas and 4 proof Kennedy halves. Sadly none of the halves are silver. Are they still worth more than face value? I KNEW IT!! I KNEW IT!! bank tellers, collecting coins!! I knew I recognised that grin when I asked for coins!! I need a job as a teller...I would have a loop around my neck and check every coin before putting it in the drawer NICE FIND

Hah! Whenever someone who is clearly a collector asks to look in my coin tray, I always chuckle on the inside and think "sure, but you won't find anything!". Another think I like to do is search a few of my coin rolls when it's slow in the bank. In just doing that I've pulled a few wheaties, a semi-key Jefferson, and a silver canadian quarter.
