It's AU, but I can't tell much more from the pictures. I love that coin; it is one of my bucket list issues that I want at some point.

I would give it an AU55 for the light wear on above the ear, above the broach and the leading edges of the eagles wings and thighs.

Definitely a nice coin.

Nice AU 53 to 58 coin. Very pretty!

Unfortunately, 95% of the early reeded edge halves I've seen have been cleaned. For some weird reason people cannot leave them alone.

(Let me guess ..... An auction pickup from about 10 years ago?)

Congrats!

Thank you for your comments. Very much appreciated.

Under the best of conditions my coin pictures are barely 'OK', but under a slab, well that is about impossible. I just cannot capture the luster on this coin.

Actually western sky, this was a coin shop purchase during a visit to Dallas, TX. in 1989 to visit my alma matter. It is graded EF45, and I thought even back then that it was somewhat conservative. I think your comments confirm that.

Beautiful coin. My thoughts were AU-55. It is pretty conservatively graded. Perhaps it needs to be sent in to PCGS.

Germanicvs....

Wow ---- can't fathom that coin being anything less than AU! It looks original to me, too.

Ironically, I was at a shop (NOT Heritage, fortunately!) in Dallas several years ago right after they had purchased a near complete set of Seated halves. All were raw and in the old style albums. I was fortunate enough to score several of the late date 1879 to 1891 coins in high grade circ condition. My favorite that I still have is the 1883! It now resides in a PCGS VF 35 holder. That late series of dates is much easier to find in "proof" than they are in nice, circ business strike condition.

Your 39-O is a killer coin in my book! Enjoy it for many years to come.

Actually, it wouldn't shock me if this coin was graded MS-60. I have seen Capped Bust halves in slabs from respected third party grading firms which had a bit of rub, and still attained MS grades. The coins in question had major eye appeal, but so does this one.
